Herbie Down Under - March 7th, 2004 at 08:51 PM

Thats right Disney are in the process of making a new Herbie movie.

The new title is Herbie Fully Loaded.

This is from a souce.

Disney has retooled its "Love Bug" franchise, setting Angela Robinson (D.E.B.S.) to direct Herbie: Fully Loaded, a Tom Lennon and Robert Ben Garant-scripted film that puts the famed Volkswagen in the world of NASCAR racing.

Disney is eyeing its Freaky Friday remake star Lindsay Lohan, among other actresses, to get behind the wheel. The budget reportedly will be close to $50 million.

The original 1968 film, The Love Bug, starred Dean Jones as the owner of a VW with a mind of its own. Buddy Hackett also appeared in the film.

Herbie Down Under - March 7th, 2004 at 10:13 PM

No intention to use a new beetle at this time which is good.

Jay_1965vw - March 7th, 2004 at 10:16 PM

Sorry, nothing against the new beetle, just I don't want them to confuse it any more....

surely it would have to be made with the new beetle???? i cant imagine an old beetle in a nascar race..... would look way out of date.

Herbie - March 8th, 2004 at 09:29 AM

No Offence but I cant see a new beetle racing Nascars either.:D
50 Million is just enough money to make a crap movie, but that sounds very much in accordance with Disneys last efforts with Herbie.
If they do it right, I'm all for it, I.E. my Herbie looks more like the original Herbie than the pathetic effort Disney made for the 97 tv movie, If they are only going to make that level of commitment then I would rather they let him die with dignity.
I dont mean the storyline, they are all "Not too serious Stories which is fine,
but rewriting his history like they did with the 97 movie is very Dodgey I reckon.
Lets see if Disney actually contacts the owners of the old Herbie/ Herbies which are all live and well loved to double check with the acuracy.
Oh and yeah, welcome back from outer space to cyberspace Richard.
Cheers Tony

hey Tony, why don't you email them with some pics of your car and offer some help/advice etc. They would probably appreciate it and you've got nothing to lose.

sounds very cool:cool:

Herbie Down Under - March 8th, 2004 at 05:37 PM

The last movie made in 1997 was a made for TV special. It was never made for cinema unlike this new movie so I am hoping for better effects and hopefully a better storyline.

And while Herbie in NASCAR sounds unbelieveable so is Herbie beating Jags and Lambos in the original movie and that was the highest grossing movie that year!

blutopless2 - March 9th, 2004 at 08:18 AM

yeah but at least the cars all suited that era .... a beetle with metal bumpers in a field of nascars would just not suit. lol

Herbie - March 9th, 2004 at 08:38 AM

I must say, since I have loaned out my Herbie dvds to a few kids up the street, most of the kids around here are mad Herbie fans, which I thought not likely as kids today require a lot more for entertainment usually but I was pleasantly surprised, But they are upset because I wont loan out my Herbie tv series Tape as its very hard to replace.

A new Herbie Movie done properly may be recieved quite well.
I hope so.

I recon they could pull it off, using the old Bug. I mean how many of the other things that were done in the old movies have been what you would call BELIEVEABLE! And the movies were targeted at the younger folk and those young at heart anyway. I dont think my kids would know any better, just to see Herbie anytime is a thrill, and who's to say Herbie hasent been fitted with a turbo porsche engine and trick suspension anyway!
I BELIEVE in Herbie and I know he can do it! GO GET EM HERBIE!....;)

Tony I know a good casting agent maybe you get Herbie a guest appearance if they use a new bug. Tom

Bugged Again - March 11th, 2004 at 08:12 AM

Herbie should fit in well with the Nascar racing
The dinosaurs they race are from the same era anyway

Y2K - March 11th, 2004 at 08:34 AM

I reckon Herbie should have a new beetle girlfriend....hehehe. (Im talking about the movie Tony cause we all know you have a new beetle girlfriend:D) They could have a romantic candlelit dinner in the garage and produce little beetles that would look like a new beetle but with all the stripes and numbers. They could use my baby.

Yes yes i know im now rubbing some peoples noses in it but i like the new ones with all the stripes and numbers.:P

I still reckon that the new beetle should appear in it somewhere.:D

Herbie - March 11th, 2004 at 09:13 AM

Now thats not a bad Idea, It would tie in nicely, Except the Age difference between a 41 year old original Herbie and a new beetle with a maximum age of 6 might call for some moral crusaders to ooze from the woodwork:D
I have actually Considered sending a folio to Disney RE working on Herbie Movies, as I know the work and know the car down to every nut and bolt, The only hassle is being allowed to work in America is a huge hassle at 34 years of age.
I may still put my hand up and see if they are interested, but there are many things to consider with relationships and current housholds etc etc if you go working overseas.
I will see how i go
Cheers Tony

I have seen a diecast model of the new beetle in white with the stripes and 53 on it. didn't quite know what to make of it.
