59 splitfunny how things pan out
aircooled70 - March 8th, 2004 at 09:01 PM

ever wondered how life has a tendancy to kick you in the nuts and then has an opposite affect. Fate has another hand and maybe a morale somewhere.
Remember the split I offered for sale some time ago with no takers. It had been put in primer by a spray shop on the gold coast (one who will remain nameless unless someone asks). I was totally let down by this guy and overcharged. So anyway I take the 2 splits away from him and resign myself to either selling them or seeing them rot away.
All of a sudden a fella comes along highly reccommended

aircooled70 - March 8th, 2004 at 09:04 PM

he says he is moving back to Melbourne in 4 weeks and wants to finish both splits before he goes, well they are now on thier way to being finished and I am totally impressed by his work up to now. Many thanks to this guy for actually taking an interest in the vehicles without $$$ signs rolling around in his eyes.

aircooled70 - March 8th, 2004 at 09:11 PM

the spray shop was gonna charge me $630 to have the bumpers straightened, I got hold of the company fixing them and paid direct- $100

twoguns - March 8th, 2004 at 09:20 PM

can you u2u me some details re who the bumper people were.
thanks

aircooled70 - March 8th, 2004 at 09:34 PM

hey wouldnt reccommend them $100 was enough for what they did but better than $630. They wanted to chop out 2inches for the overall length of the front bumper even though I explained that the bumpers came off the splitty, they swore blind that the bumper was too long.
The old saying "horses for courses" comes to mind

twoguns - March 8th, 2004 at 09:54 PM

cool. i have one that i want to get straightened.... will keep looking.

65busser - May 23rd, 2004 at 09:40 PM

Aircooled,
That is magnificent. Great colour. Good to see something different. Couldn't you get it any straighter? Congrats!! Please tell us how you did the curves in the liner behind the partition. I've thought long and hard about that one and came up with nuffin'.

aircooled70 - May 24th, 2004 at 05:35 PM

get set up on a flat surface screw timbers down to your required width and one along the bottom, for the top cut a template for the shape. I used a bendable marine ply, you can buy it specially for tight curves. Either steam it or pour boiling water over the sharpest bend and hey presto. Let it dry and it should keep its shape after a few days in the jig. you will have to get the ply cut to the shape you need by using a cardboard template.
Hope this helps someone,
cheers
