Insuring your Beetle
Dannyboy - March 10th, 2004 at 09:42 PM

Up until now i have not botherd with insuring my bug but as i am spending more and more on it i fell the need to have decent cover.

The car is only really used on the w'ends so a low mileage , classic ins , whatever ? Would need to cover modifications i think.

Who do you guys and girls use to insure your vw's?

Just in case you need any more encouragement... Try Shannons :D

:sandrine
I swapped to Shannons this year....& only half the insurance $ than last year.
Just tell them of all the details done to your car, where it lives etc...
And I bet they can do a better deal than your prevoius company....
Also they have better terms in their policies too.
Hopefully this helps you in some small way.

just a little question about shannons...

seeing as how im only 24, shannons quoted me over $1k to get my car insured, and if i had that kind of money i would spend it making my beetle a better beetle.

do shannons lower the cost of their insurance when you turn 25 like other insurance companies do? i have a friend who has her valiant insured with shannons and she said they only drop their prices when you turn 29??!!??

Oasis - March 10th, 2004 at 11:35 PM

Shannons is great, but you need a garage (where I live) or they won't insure you at all. So I went with Vigil. Had to give them a long list of modifications, but they were happy to insure it as long as it was all legal.

yeah im with shannons , u can get the salvage rights and agreeded value , they seam really nice i just had to send in some pics of the car and they will agree on the value, and the best thing has to be the salvage rights u get to use all the parts u dont wreck. and it saves nrma selling ur ride at auction and making a profit :thumb

HRD 68B - March 11th, 2004 at 12:03 AM

starbuggy i only pay 450 and yr with like 1g excess all up on a agreed value of 5grand ? its a 68 1500, have u lost ur no claim bonus , that might be the prob ? the guy i spoke to didnt seem to worried to give me 45% no claim bonus. the guys name was david pettitt top bloke

Yes, they just changed it this year to 25 from 29. Pity I still have 3 years to go. But I'm with them anyway!

LittleMissHerbina - March 11th, 2004 at 08:39 AM

I was with RACV and changed to Shannons this year.
I am only 20n and it was really good.
I am still bragging about Shannons.
Their service was perfect.
:D

Shannons would have to be pretty happy with this post!!!

Starbug - March 11th, 2004 at 09:50 AM

well, when i called them about insurance, i had never had an accident at the time (but have had one now :cry) and was 23. i wanted to insure it for 6K, perhaps it would have cost me that 1K to insure because i live in a (semi dodgy?) inner city suburb, and have lots of modifications done.

Oasis, thanks for the info on shannons and garages, as the place im moving to doesnt have one at all and ive got to park on the street/in my yard, so i may try vigil like you said, i hope they insure under 25s!!:)

Got a quote from both today to insure for $7500..
Vigil was $20 less and they give 24Hr roadside assistance as well (though I've never used it)
I used to have a BMW 635CSi with Vigil.. Over 10 years I had two no fault claims.. They were both handled very professionally with no fuss etc..

I've never used Shannons so can't comment on their service..

I once rang the NRMA for a quote to insure my 77 kombi and they said not to worry about insurance it was to old and not worth it.
