Looks like a Chev Corvair engine to me!

Oasis - March 16th, 2004 at 02:35 PM

It's definitely a type 4 with a Horizontal Porsche fan shroud, I don't know who makes the shroud though. Please enlighten me.

Do a search on Germanlook.com.They are from a German Co.(from memory)and they have a bit of trouble keeping the belt on.There has been some chat on the Shoptalk Forum as well.

Dasdubber - March 16th, 2004 at 04:50 PM

Yep, can't tell you exactly who but they are manufactured in Germany from memory. The chev corvair has a similar system but slightly different...they can have problems with the twisting of the belts taking a 90degree turn (my old man has a chev corvair convertible).

68AutoBug - March 16th, 2004 at 05:04 PM

It May LOOK OK, but I don't like the idea of the Two Idler Pulleys...
they only last so long... I don't like idler pulleys at all... there won't be any on My air con set up..
and using a vee belt like that isn't good for the belt either....

Your all wrong ......it's a hovercraft......:P

karmannghia60 - March 16th, 2004 at 05:19 PM

Hi Lee, Porsche used this setup on some of their racing vehicles so they can't be wrong.

Mad Manx - March 16th, 2004 at 07:34 PM

robnjo - March 16th, 2004 at 07:54 PM

BenettonVW - March 16th, 2004 at 08:18 PM

I'm with Matt, very Corvair-ish..

El Duderino - March 16th, 2004 at 09:47 PM

Its german made (but i think they ceased production), theres a fella in one of the last two ultra VWs running one in his 356 replica... Bootsy on volkszone.co.uk forums.
I've heard the same stuff about keeping the belts on, plus, you're gonna loose a fair bit of HP through that system. I'm sure theres a tech article on http://www.germanlook.com  relating to these. And I think Jake Raby in the US has tested one.
