The mag we got today was just one of the many benifits to being a member of the manx club. It is put out quarterly and is a great read.

Brad - March 23rd, 2004 at 10:17 PM

MikeM - March 24th, 2004 at 09:18 AM

Congrats to all involved. An excellent publication. This was my first edition. I'd love to get my hands on some back issues. Even a photocopy would be great.

The bearings article was a good read. I think most VW owners would just stick whatever bearings they were given by they guy behind the counter into their car, completely oblivious to the fact that they've probably just been sold crap bearings.

A great article :thumb

ducky - March 24th, 2004 at 03:23 PM

SAY NO TO CRAP!!!!!

Brad - March 24th, 2004 at 03:26 PM

you mean you should change your bearings ? I thought the factory ones went forever ..

OH well lucky I have a manx mania with an article on what bearings to buy :D

You got any info on front wheel bearing before I go out and buy a set?

$2.63 homebrand baja - March 25th, 2004 at 01:19 PM

:bounce after a week filled with tow trucking fun, (breakdown at roadworks on inner city bypass so everyone could slow right down and have a good stare at me!), roadside repairs, more fixin, more breakin, blah blah blah, it was nice to recieve a reminder in the mail as to why I have been fixing mah heap and not just buying a 'normal' car as many a peron has suggested!

Its good stuff

Bearings,,,,,,,,,,,,mmmmm, let me recover from the gearbox first!lol.:D

no, not yet. I did the rear ones first cos they are easy to cover. And I still plan a 2nd part to the story are there are a few tricks and weird arrangements people are trying, but didn't want to squash it all into 1 article.

Front wheel bearings are a nightmare. They never last as long as they should. the speedo cable helps fill the passenger one with water. and the main problem is the different sizes used on different models. It is an absolute mess.

easiest way is to get the numbers off the old bearing, and see if you can find it on the SKF website. Then order new ones to suit. Or take the old ones into a bearing shop.

mmm that would be why you fill ya cap hole with silastic before you put ya cable through now wouldn't it ??

Baja Wes - March 26th, 2004 at 08:45 AM

I do, but I still get water in that bearing more than the other. I hate front wheel bearings. :(

Jamox - March 29th, 2004 at 01:36 PM

The new mania is soooo awesome!

I think it should be called the Manx Mania Marvel becasue it is a marvel that a group of off-road vwers could concoct a peice of literary genius like that! THe scope for future article gets the blood pumping. It seems to have gone up many rungs on the ladder. THe actual text editing has really improved also.

Absolutely fantastic. Reallly great work. Can't wait till the next one.

If your asses weren't all on the other side of the country my lips would be a bit sore eh?

Rightio then, seeya bye
jamie

Brad - March 29th, 2004 at 09:39 PM

Hey Jamie is that a Polite way of saying my text editing skills sucked ??

Mad Manx - March 30th, 2004 at 06:50 AM

Brad - March 30th, 2004 at 07:50 AM

I have a few lingo things and teh is just on eof them. Seems my fingures move out of order when I type sometimes ... Oh well ;)

Jamox - March 30th, 2004 at 08:44 PM

Nah mate, it was just like doing a word sleuth or crossword puzzle; try and figure out the word in relation to the sentence. ;-) She was all good Brad, I I always knew what you were talkign about and that was all that mattered. I could perhaps blame you for the mistakes I have made on my car though?????!!! It just seems like it is a "real" magazine now, I am surprised the membership fees haven't increased.

I can't(and hope you didn't think I was) complain about all the hard work you guys put in in the early stages to get the club going and the mag started when i did piss all except bother you with questions.

It is really great. I am seriously thinking about trying to get over there for tghe 2005 trip which would be worthwhile with the greater trip length. I could call through everyones' places in case of a breakdown. BTW, are there any members on the Nullabor???

Seeya Bye
Jamie
