a 1302 is a strut front end Beetle what we call a Superbug
a 1303 is also a strut front end but has a curved front screen or what we call a L Bug
I alway thought a Superbug had a curved screen!!
Now I have no idea what I have,
even the year [1976] is in doubt.
Flat screen for a flat head.

go to http://www.superbeetlesonly.com and have a read there
it describes it well
basically
1302 -
S bug
flat screen
3 bolt mac struts
1971-1972
1303 early
L bug
curved screen
3 bolt mac struts
1973
1303 late
L bug
curved screen
2 bolt mac struts
1974
1303 1975
L bug
curved screen
2 bolt mac struts
rack and pinion(sp?) steering
1975
Have a look at Steve C's beetle or Jak Rizzos' or Dieter Holzl
They are all 1302's

Barry 75s in Aussie had FLAT screen and they went back to Torsion bar Front ends
Dave
That was a 1976
Yes it was a standard
a 1975 was a L bug with rack and pinion
There is a Crown riding on this
Blues right, I was looking at a aug 75 which was a L bug with curved screen and rack steering. Also remenber there was the 1300 model round these times to!!!
The 1300 was a standard Beetle made from 1971>
They had drum brakes all round... Swing rear axle..
The 1302 was a SuperBug - flat windscreen - flat spare tyre-
IRS rear end- McPherson front suspension. [struts]
The 1303S was a SuperBug - Curved windscreen - flat spare tyre - IRS rear end - McPherson front suspension. [struts]
The 1976 standard Beetle had a flat windscreen- upright spare tyre - IRS rear end - ball joint torsion bar front end.
VW kept the best until LAST --- IMHO..Of course...
ALL Beetles in the USA from 1969> had IRS rear suspension
& DRUM brakes.... Standards & supers - both 1600 engines..
