Directions to get to VW Factory Wolfsburg
helbus - April 5th, 2004 at 10:58 PM

We will be going to Europe in four months and one of the places we are going is Berlin.

What I would like to know is if someone can get me a heap of info on how to get to the VW factory & museum.

Everthing like bus numbers, train lines, times, places, prices etc.

If someone has done it it would help us a lot as we have limited time. :)

in about a week or so, and I'll get onto it.

I lived in Germany for 7 years, and can find out all the info you need online. Should only take an hour or so, but as I said, get on my case about it next week.

All the best,

Martin.

P.S. bring back lots of Piccies!

Here's the address of the Museum

Dieselstr. 35
38446 Wolfsburg
Tel: 05361 - 52071
Fax: 05361 - 52010
automuseum@wolfsburg.de

Costs 6 Euro for Entry, or 15 for a family. They do a tour for 30 Euro, but I'm not sure about the language.

There's another automuseum in Wolfsburg too. They do tours of the VW factory, where they produce the Lupo, 3-Liter-Lupo, Golf, Golf Variant, Bora, Bora Variant. Might be worth a visit more just for the museum? The do a daily tour of the Factory in English at 12.45pm. You can call and speak to them in English about your plans on +49 5361 400.

AUTOSTADT GmbH
StadtBrücke
38440 Wolfsburg

As for transport, hire a car. The region of Braunschweig is a couple of hours away from Berlin, and trains can be a pain in Germany (what with terrorists trying to derail them etc.) Trains are also pretty expensive, and you'll be happier and more comfortable in a car (tho' the LHD change will freak you out at first!). You can get a small hire car (Golf, Smart etc) pretty cheaply from Sixt, and will probaly be better off than with public transport.

THe Autobahns are really easy to follow, and if you go this route, I'll make you up a directions pack. You could also do it yourself with:

http://www.map24.com/

You'll get full directions from where your staying to where your going on here. You just need the street names and cities. Any probs, give us a buzz.

CU!

Martin.

In Europe it's generally MUCH cheaper to hire a car from this end, so look into that. I ended up with a Opel Corsa (Barina) for over $150/day once... Ripped off.

Ive been to Germany twice over the years, and the only way to get around is by driving a hire car.... and much more fun getting lost etc etc

Yes make sure you book a hire car this end as if you arrive there at the airport there usually all gone or pre booked.

And they work out cheaper for some reason.

I went in 2001 with pmgbus.
we bought a '69 bay window campef from a vw show in Pommy land for 1000 quid, then took it over to the mainland on the ferry, drove through France into Germany.
Drove through Stuttgart, Hockenheim, Ingoldstadt, Nurnburg,
Munich, Westfalen, Berlin, Wolfsburg, Hannover, Osnabruck, then through Belgium, Holland, france, then back to Pomgolia, and sold the camper at another VW show for 600 quid.
so our transport and accomodation for the time we were over there only cost us 400 quid between us.
you can't hire a car for 100 pound a week.

Definately go to the Autostadt museum. an amazing place.
to see, do, and touch everything there, you'd probably want to go there two days.
The Dieselstrasse museum is amazing too. It's the original VW museum.
Make sure you have plenty of spending money though.
