Anyone know the number of the Melbourne guy who paints whitewalls on tyres?

Hi Softnotch,

I asked the same question last week so I will pass on the response to you.

his name is Don ph: 9571 3671.

He etches in new white rubber after taking a skim off the wheels rather than a paint on.

I am having my tyres done today but won't see them for awhile as they have to come over to Perth. if you would like a report on them let me know.

I was doing a ring around a while ago and the thing I heard about that process is that is can be bad juju. They take off some of the meat from your side wall, als o the inserts can leave a dodgy seal/bead...

It was sugested that in both cases one would use inner tubes.

Also that in both cases the black will stain the white and you will end up with brown walls.

well that is what i am lead to think

Thanks all. That's him (I lost his number).

While it may not be ideal to etch into a side wall, tyres these days are fairly robust, even on the thinner side walls.

Cheaper too, antique tyres in Heidelberg want about $300 a pop for a full white wall. Not cheap!

The notch rag top notch should come up a treat!

I'll take it pop was not a pun...

tis your arse on the line, cutting in to the tyre. But perhaps consider tubes..

or ask him how much he is insured for??????

I run atlas inserts and etched don jobs on another car.No problems yet.Brown walls usually happen when you use brand new tyres. But it doesnt happen too often.Hi marcus...:thumb
