Hi guy & girls .....
I have been offered a 64 type 3 notch... it seem to be a good little car in general.... it just needs a few little things & it would make a great
daily driver.... my worry is this .....
I have never had a a type 3 before & from what i have been told in the last week i am not sure now about buying this one... is it true that parts
now are getting VERY HARD to get ? and also very expencive ?
i look to the greater minds to shed some light on this on for me.
thanks
57 Cal look
depends on what parts yr after... Notches are harder to find especially rear glass, engine lids, rear guards as these r different to all other Type
3s.
Early tailights flat style also hard to find
All the rest is the same
no way ! go for it!!!!!!
it is true that type3 parts are a little more difficult to get a hold of --- and yeah i find this frustrating at times ---- but it is not impossible.
being friends with citreon, audi and bmw owners...i dunno...everyone has thier issues re:spare parts -- and i dont think it is so much the expense
difference, just the hassle of tracking them down. but dont let that stop you!
my friends with beetles do annoy me sometimes, mainly becuase of the inter-changability of beetle parts --- and their availablity. but the only thing
i cant find at the moment is window seals ---- and there is always a solultion (modifyingkombi ones...)
dont know...my advice is do it! type 3s are awesome.....have been driving them for 4 years will never comlain or change alligeince......(cant spell
sorry)
my main concern is that you might not be stylish enough yet to cope with the type 3 .......it takes a lot of style to deal with a car that
cool.....your personal style must be fully developed otherwise you run the risk of losing your identiy and just becoming "that person who drives the
extremely cool car".......you will have a moral obligation to be aloof and slightyly hostile to other drivers....eheheh...sorry, just being a wanker
now......
good luck ------------ thorun
Prove it Thor! You still haven't gotten a pic up in the other thread yet. Lead by example. Show what you mean about style Babe!
I throw down the gauntlet!
P.S. I'll get my pic up in a couple of days (blush)
get it get it get it !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
dom
Drive a beetle, then drive a Type 3. Economy vs Business Class
If your worried about parts availability then look at http://www.typethreedetectives.com
I have a 65 1500S Notchy and its the best driving early car I've got!
Steve
We own 2 Type 3's a 66 Fastback and a 69, good cars but some parts can be a little expensive for them just depends on what you are looking
for.........
Robynne
I dont think i could ever turn a VW offer down. I would go for it!!!!
Do it! Do It!
I've got a '69 beetle and a '69 Notch I was in the same boat as you but now wouldn't go back. If you look hard enough you can always find
parts.
As long as you can get basic parts ball joints btake pads etc no problem...go for it.
Then wreck it and I'll buy some parts....only jokin'.....:P
mate do it there the best little car of its time!!!! you will find it better to drive then a beetle!!!
cheers
rhys
p.s. we have heaps of parts here for you if ya need em!!
wahoo! so much support for the type 3s!!!!
and perfectly said by Steve --- drive one and you'll see why they are so much fun!
wombat....i dont have any pics of myself to post...damn it...i am the only person on the planet without a digital scanner boo. (and now i am
worried...will have to take a pic when i am having a really good hair day or something....)
Have to say as much as i love my 67 bug i'd gladly swop it for a nice notch! Love um!

ive got a karmann ghia , a bay kombi and a fastback, guess what i daily drive. apart from panels parts are cheap for the notch.
A Type 3 is also my next investment. I am not nearly as stupid as I make out, which means an "intelligent choice".
BTW German Dubber's adore the things!!!
I own two Notchs, admittedly late models but the point is they are a classic sedan shape, got two luggage holds, are that little bit more modern that
the beetle, and to top it off, a creed of there own.
There is enough of a base on this forum to find the parts you need, and the people here wont back down from helping you too.
If you want to segregate yourself from the more traditional kombies and beetles then this is my pick of the lesser known, but widely admired
minority.
Just make sure the car has got what it takes in terms of the usual required lack of rust and other cash drains!
Other than that if it's honest enough in itself, go for it, you wont be disatified. There a whole new world to explore in these little critters!

nicely said!!!!!
ive got a 67 fastie but would love a notch , driving the type 3 is more fun than my bug and more comfy than my bus , but the early styling is cool buy it enjoy it you wont regret it :P
all i can say is, why arent beetles this easy to work on? after fiddling with a 1600 in an oval, and then working on my mates notch, it makes a huge difference. from changing plugs, to dropping the motor out. easy! i can see VW learnt their lessons from the bug and improved with the type 3.
Danger Will Robinson. Don't dis the Bug, or your u2u will be full of death threats.
Lil Dub! Wear one of your stylish thingos to the Klubfest. I'll bring my digicam and you can play model. I'll get my pics up in that other picture
thread later this weekend.
See you there (but not at caloundra boo hoo!)
Go type3 very cool cars great to drive
Type111's rule
:kiss :kiss :kiss :kiss :kiss :kiss
I have one, considering another..
All said above is absolutely true, but they are also quieter.... Makes conversations effortless..
i can go one better VW wombat......ill take my cam to caloundra with me if i go thorun:bounce
Ripper Anti! Make the shots as embarrassing as possible please.
BTW WTF is that thing on the driver door Benetton? Some sort of weapon for Monaro drivers? I apologise if I'm being ignorant!
its a kind of humidifyer kinda thing...it kools the car the oppisite way to airconditioning
Uhh.. yeah sorta, but not really.
It's called a 'swamp cooler'. Essentially it is a evaporative airconditioner. Water is poured into the cylinder, absorbed by straw in the cooler,
then when the car is moving, the cylinder scoops the air, pushing it through the wet straw, into the car, and cooling the warmer air in the process.
Brief, but thats how it works.
Usually on the passenger side, but at the same time, these are American items, so...
Go for it .. Buy look after it keep it alive for years .. They are one of the greatest vehicles on the road IMO... We need to keep the breed alive!
Tyep three wagon - best car I had. Wish I still had it. Better drive than a Beetle and I'd daily-drive one even today...
