Gearbox rebuild for US$20
matara - April 14th, 2004 at 11:42 AM

Redbuggy is now in Cairo and suffered from a broken reverse gear. Amazingly there are still lots of 70's Kombis on the road there and they managed to get a back street garage to rebuild their buggy transmission for only US$20 and it was done in one day! Wow!

I don't necessarily think that labour prices are excessive here - I know I wouldn't want to fix a gearbox for the equivalent of around AU$3.25/hour (assuming it took them 8 hours to remove, rebuild and reinstall the box/engine etc for a whopping AU$26).

I know you're just having a stab frenzix;)

cool story to tell though matara
