vwtyp2 - April 19th, 2004 at 10:44 PM

I've recently discovered the consumerism trap of ebay.
So much stuff, so little money.:cry

Anthiron - April 19th, 2004 at 10:46 PM

i want to buy stuff......but i know i shouldnt...so i dont:P

68AutoBug - April 19th, 2004 at 11:51 PM

I have been a member of EBAY for over 2 years & have bought 74 items... mostly VW related... including books and VW parts... I received a parcel of VW parts today.. and am expecting another before the end of the week...
I direct debit from My Bank to theirs , which I can do from My computer... or I can Use Pay Pal also...
Just remember to read everything, including the Postage & the RIP OFF Packing prices some people charge...

I was just about to bid on a Clarion Radio CD Player from a Mitsubishi Lancer, same as in My Lancer, to put in My Beetle, but when I asked the seller whether He had the 4 digit PIN Code to operate the Unit.. HE Said NO He didn't....
Lucky I thought about that.... but some poor person has bid $50 for it... and will never be able to get it to work !!!
There are some nice people on ebay... and some Rip off merchants...

68AutoBug - April 28th, 2004 at 09:17 AM

Just remember that some [idiots in My Book] people sell in US Dollars.. so it costs a bit more than You think....

My Son just bought some early kombi rear blinker lenses on ebay... it said the Seller was in Australia.... when He asked how much the postage was... the fellow said He'll have to find out the postage from the US to Australia !!!
My Son told Him that the parts were listed as being in Australia..... I don't know what has happened since....

I bought an item once - location : Australia... luckily they were only cheap & light and the postage wasn't too much, as they came from Malaysia.....

If You are bidding on a CD player etc make sure the seller WILL insure it for You... its not expensive... some won't!!!

Did you ever find yourself bidding on something
when you didn't have the cash? I have, and have
gone "Whoops!" afterwards. Still, I have managed
to get it all through in the end!

Any manual should only cost $7.90 to post
in Australia. I did see one guy advertising
that it would cost $20.00. He must have been
a long way from a post office and wanted
petrol money?!?

My last successes were a Haynes for $19.50,
and a mint Autobook for $14.00 (sorry Rhys!
It's really nice!).

If you do your research, you can get stuff
really cheap. I got a cordless phone (the exact
model I was after) for half retail price last week.

Then there are the stupid people who will bid
more than retail. You have to just shake your
head. One guy bid $48.00 for a mangled "How
to keep your VW alive" a couple of weeks ago.

BTW there a a couple of splitties on there at
the moment. I can only dream!

vwombat - April 28th, 2004 at 09:53 AM

Good plan! I stupidly bought 2 copies of the Scientific Pub Bay
manual last week! Oh well, there's always the next swap meet.

I keep telling you guys that I'm seriously brain inhibited. There's
the proof!

vwombat - April 28th, 2004 at 10:14 AM

Believing me - EVER - is the beginning of
your demise!!! Whooohhahahahaha!

What were the 40 things you bought?

byronbus - April 28th, 2004 at 11:20 AM

Im a member but once bought too many vw models and toys, so only look and have a list of what i need not want

72TWINCAB - April 28th, 2004 at 11:38 AM

Ebay is addictive. I joined and purchased a couple of VW things. The Mrs caught onto this and thought "this is all right". Now she's addicted worse than me.

empi man - April 29th, 2004 at 11:43 AM

I' ve sold a car and bought my '76 Beetle on ebay!I 've been ripped, yes!I thought I was buying from the USA and it was from Mexico. The parts I was buying were not available in Australia!
I search daily under:beetle,vw,volkswagen.
If I see a forum members's user's name and they're bidding on ebay,I don't bid.
About 150 transactions!
Do you home work before you bid!Ask the seller any thing you are not sure about!
Good Luck!
