Another beetle smashed
helbus - April 20th, 2004 at 10:31 AM

It had to happen. As soon as the beetle is resprayed all nice, Fleur had to go and run into the back of a trailer.

She was not hurt, but the beetle don't look real good anymore. Lucky she knows a panel beater.

Anyone got a really really good bonnet to suit 1970 1500 beetle. Not Superbug or L bug

Dasdubber - April 20th, 2004 at 01:22 PM

Hey Helbus at least you can use it as an opportunity to detail your next "how to" article in the paint and body section - how to repair beetle front end damage :)

glad fleur isn't hurt

helbus - April 20th, 2004 at 01:27 PM

Actually I will do that. I might as well make it constructive.

*did* - April 20th, 2004 at 02:08 PM

If your front beam is damaged I have drum brake one, couple of front guards too (off my old 1970 1300).

ronster - April 20th, 2004 at 02:28 PM

oh no....

that's my worst nightmare, get ur bug nicely painted and bang, you have an accident....

lol i know what that is like my bro rolled our van after it was hand repainted only a few weeks before to get rid of rust problem, was write off!! d'oh

helbus - April 20th, 2004 at 06:11 PM

I have stripped the Beetle down and the damage is as follows

LH guard & headlight
Bonnet
Spare wheel buckled
petrol tank very small dent
LH skirt pushed in about 70mm at about headlight level
crease in LH skirt between LH door and guard
RH guard untouched
Bumper untouched
Fleur untoched

Now to get this friggin thing back on the road.

BenettonVW - April 20th, 2004 at 06:56 PM

Thanks goodness for the safety of the Beetle..

Peter, do you happen to have before an after the crash pics?

helbus - April 20th, 2004 at 07:07 PM

I rang the guy she run into. He was a bit of a pig really.

Fleur hit the back of a tandem traile which had 4WD tyres on it so it was quite high, and very tough.

Scratched the paint on the 50mm RHS running along under the tailgate.

Fleur fooked her nice beetle and he was being real stand offish. She said sorry and that she didn't mean it. Quite obvious really when you see a nice car damaged.

I mean who here would like to plough their pride and joy headlong into a lump of steel?

Oh well we will get over it, I just hope he gets over his precious trailer that we will pay to have fixed.

All we can say is

SORRY

MickH - April 20th, 2004 at 08:11 PM

Hmmm ......buy her a tank to drive. Tell her not to brake for the trailer next time so you can get yer $$$$ worth. That ought to shut the guy up:):P:bounce

helbus - April 20th, 2004 at 11:47 PM

We are on to it.

Got a bonnet and guard from Dean at the VWCV meeting tonight. Thank you very much.

Will have it back on the road in no time.

And I will get the liquid paper out to touch up the scratch in the white trailer so the guy who owns it will stop sooking like a baby shithead.

Anthiron - April 20th, 2004 at 11:53 PM

ha ha good stuff

Peter Leonard - April 20th, 2004 at 11:53 PM

LOL
better than a fully grown shithead tho?
*writes down panelbeater's liquid paper trick*
show us the carnage?

helbus - April 26th, 2004 at 12:53 AM

Worked on the Beetle on Saturday with what little time I had spare.

I got the LH skirt pulled out on the rack and got the body all in putty.

Now just have to clean up the guard and bonnet we got and paint it.

Assemble and done. :)
