Seeing that NO 1500 VWs had rear disc brakes... ALL rear wheel disc set ups - will have a different stud pattern....
I have heard of Fiat or other European rear disc setups being Modified to fit a VW.
Just how much modification ?? is the BIG question.... the Main problem IMHO is finding a disc Hub that will fit onto the VW rear axle ... etc.....
Nothing is impossible .. just harder .. but this one is too hard for Me..... :o If there is someone out there who has done this modification.. I would appreciate hearing just how hard it is..and what is actually
involved.. :thumb
I had the Fiat brakes and I hated them. I just couldnt get them to work. Stock drums were better. EA, EB falcon brakes can be modified to fit. Needs a little bit of machine work. You could talk to Ben Durie for the details. I've got them on my type 3 but my memory is shocking. Probably cheaper to use Ford stuff too as all those ex taxis rot in wrecking yards.
I got a baja wreck that has 4 wheel discs. The guy I got it from said they were from a renault, but they use the standard wide 5 pattern. I don't
really know how it's all held together, as I haven't had it apart yet.

u can adapt porsche 944 rear discs to the back of an IRS setup. or u can just get a kit from the US. either way its not cheap !

Why bother with rear discs - all you need for bigger rear brakes on the beetle are wider type3 drums with their backing plates - a direct swap.
Not actually a direct swap, you do have to cut or machine off about 25mm from the hub, but apart from that its a direct swap for the T3 drums, and
they are significantly larger.
Or Volks Conversions in QLD has rear disc kits for $700 or $800 from memory.
yeah NOT a direct swap as the hub has to be machined, and to get the drum in the correct position i had to machine the spacer as well, cause i took
some meat of the inside as well as the outside of the hub.
This was to fit onto 40hp short axles.
Hey, I'm just glad to have brakes again! A new master cylinder does a great job compared to the old one.
EF,EA and EB Ford Falcon brakes can be adapted rather easily. My mate did his conversion for about $350-400. The caliper has the handbrake built in. I'll email you some pics if you'd like. Let me know.
Reub - definetily interested in some piccies on this one. Sounds like a good way to get much better brakes, and access to a much better range of wheels too !
naah mate you dont get the falcon stud pattern.
You keep the 4 stud pattern using VW drive flanges.
