This event should be officially timed, or I see little reason to hold it. This event is for VW's to race and is an opportunity for
circuit/hillclimb/street cars etc to compete against each other, showing car control, engine performance and suspension setups.
Would you race at the drags with no timing or results?????
Agree/disagree?
Hmmmm some people enjoy a 'fang' even if there is no timing. But stuffed if I could be bothered...
Timing would be good.
Will they have timing there this year craig do you know?
Isn't there different rules under CAMS for race, timed or quick fang events. It could mean a change in insurance (Liability bloodsucker type). Timing
would be good though!!
Marc.
hey hate to sound incompetent but i undoubtedly am......
when is the nambucca heads meeting happening???
am new to the vw scene really but love nambucca heads, would love to go!
last weekend in July/first in August
ok this may be my first, but i may not be able to make it, im wondering, is it possible to book a tent site a week in advance, or should i be booking now? ifnot ill sleep in my car lol
I think '59 Bus' is right. I agree though, I wouldn't go out without getting a timeslip. I wonder how a video camera monitoring the startline would be classified though?
i think it was untimes last year due to insurance reasons, but don't quote me
What if someone other than the organising officials just happened to be hand timing, would that work?
As I understand it last year the Cams permit for racing was not approved (probably due to the wrong wording or some such) in which case a practice session was allowed and no official times are allowed. But if person x (not related to the running of the event) wants to stand next to the track and take taimes I think that is ok, but if those times are used offically for prizes the rules have been broken and the stewards and officals can be in big trouble.
Hand timing is so open to error, I mean light beam timing. We could even have split timing so we can see the different times posted for sections of the track ???
Dont worrie its a VW week end join in... Youll see me there timing or no timing its a chance to have fun with other VW's and a VW surround. Its also cheaper to conduct with out timing due to the insurance... Everyone please come it will be awsome!!
it was / is all about insurance. If any timing occurs then they will void their public liability insurance. If a 3rd party chose to time the event and
it was shown the drivers were aware thne the organisers would be in the POO...
It it is an untimed event with time penalties it would be ok. For example you call it a stop and go so that the participant starts on one line and
drives around the track and stops on that line again it is stop and go. The person clossest to the line wins. BUT if everyone stopped on the line then
it is acceptable to use times to decide the winner...... you get my drift :P
How do I know this ..... well my insurance agent told me when I asked the question about running grass strip drags for the manx club. He told me do
exactly that and that it was covered under our policy..... as it was not classified as a timed event.
well like it was said ^^^^ up there...
timing or no timing... it isn't important to me as i've just gotten into this and will most likely only have Millie to race down there anyway as the
Baja i dont think will be finished b4 Valla!
So it dosen't matter wat happens to me! Its a good time out having a go at something and enjoying it!
Ciao
Kat
I will be there this year and the brakes will work and I have the suspension sorted out abit better, so hopefully will be out and having fun!!!
well its official............no timing !
To all the weekend warriors enjoy the track..................as for me I won't be racing
I can enjoy driving my 54' up and getting on the turps:beer:beer
yahoo!!!!!!!!!! counting down the days
Yes no timming because the track is not officially sanctioned by CAMS.
But the weird part is you have to have a CAMs licence and you have to have a car that meets CAMS approval and there will be a CAMS official there.
So work that one out with CAMS there a WEIRD mob if you ask me
Its nothing to do with the organisers, so dont blame tehm they have tried..
Sorry but the threads werent clear, is the racing, like drags up the 1/4 or is there a circuit- havent been there before..
in years gone by when there HAS been 'racing' it has been a lap dash. Raleigh is essentially a GoKart track. One car at a time to see who can lap
the circuit the quickest.
I dont expect them to go out and get a track licence just for us. I know exactly how much shit goes into that as my club spent 2 years trying to get
ours.
Whinging whining bitches. I think the entry last year was only $20 bucks or something stupid wasnt it? Spent more than that in fuel! Just go out and
have fun. You dont need to have timing to enjoy having a blast around. I have always seen Raleigh as a place to let your hair down and go nuts. Its
not the world championship. Its Nambucca.
Ask yourself how you would feel if you were working your arse off to organise an event and people started bitching and complaining about it 2 months
before the event! Makes me wonder how much time some of you peole have spent organising events for others. Invite me to your christmas party so I can
start putting shit on it now.
I'll be at Valla and Raleigh. I will be the one grinning. Cos those weekends I have spent there over the last 15 years are the best weekends I have
ever had. Please dont try and bring me down.
Who's whinging and whining ???
I'ts the WANKERS that try and hand time the event and then post times/compare times as though we are competing that wreck the events.
:repuke
So how many cars will be running ? Is it really worth all that effort for the organisers (great job they do)to put on an event for a handful of
cars.............I don't think so.
It would be better and more fun if we used the GO KARTS and timed it !!!!
.

Idisagreeand agree on this topic. Hand stop watches are not accurate at all.I had a great time taking my sportsedan for testing and bum in seat time .Lots of people gave me times from their stop watches and times were all over the place ,proper timing is need but no matter what happens i will be there having a great time it takes a lot of work to organise these events . For those who need accomodation/info on Valla'04,the website is: http://www.vwparts.com.au
Come!
Swap or don't swap!
Race or don't race!!
Just come!Its a blast!!!
and the very last!!!!!
Non smiling people stay, @ home!!!
Have you ever done a caltex chase supersprint at Bathurst?
The timing goes like this. The start person at the hump on conrod and normal bathurst finish line person are in contact by radio. The person at the
finish has 2 stopwatches. They count into the radio "3, 2, 1, go" This is heard by the man with a green flag who drops it on go at the 'same time'
the person saying go clicks a stopwatch. Then they stop the 2 clocks at the finish line. How good is the reaction time of the flag guy. Any chance his
flag drops at the same time for each person??? nup. Can the person at the end click a stopwatch at 1 hundredth of a second accuracy? thats what it is
timed to and means the difference between winning and losing. But the thrill of doing 200 in a 60 zone through caltex is enough.
It costs around $100 to enter and they turn away people in droves every year.
Anyone compete at Amaroo? It was timed by radio. Anyone with electronics knowledge could have made a gizmo that they could enter in a time of 55
seconds for example and send their own radio signal to stop the clock, even though they were doing 55.8's. Big deal maybe. But enough for someone to
theoretically walk away as a NSW hillclimb champion.
You can race your car and play karts as well. Do both. If I am not staring at a thousand engine pieces on a slab of concrete all weekend I hope to do just that. As well as sucking more than 2 ambers at the aussieveedubbers BBQ. Who's turn is it to take the said BBQ this year?
Quote: |
Er, Amaroo is all houses now... and what's it got to do with anything?
Mods: Suggest maybe a leash should be put on some of the puppies on here...
In one way, it is a shame that there is no 'official' timing at Nambucca. In the past, some people seem to have taken hand-timing as gospel truth,
choosing to use this mis-information to carry on like kindy kids and criticise or otherwise challenge the accuracy of, legitimate trophy-winning
results SCORED AT OTHER EVENTS!!
That is why some people here have chosen NOT to "compete" - so as they are not constantly asked to justify thier 'time' by some poor, petulant
souls at what should be a 'fun' event. I recall, for example, last year - one competitor was actively and loudly criticising another's car, engine
builder, engien configuration and driving on these forums, crowing far and wide how he 'won'.
Until, in the absence of 'official' results, a simple calculation by a third person proved him wrong. It was not only a right royal pain in the arse
for many who read the thread, but highly embarrassing for the competitor/workshop involved. I think that was a contributing factor to him being
banned... all from what should have been a 'fun' event. Yes, that's right - this poor fellow managed to 'hang' himself on a set of results that
weren't even properly timed... quite sad, really...
Having said that, if you are going to Nambucca, get out there and have a lash, especially if you have never 'let loose' on a track before. It's top
fun!!!

F*** lets have a good time, people who cry all the time are way to serious,or just have know idea, racing is fun like last year people who didnot smile should be fined . The person who was acting like a goose please stay home.JVL Racing
Pick at minor details all you want craig. Perhaps my knowledge is only as accurate as the timing. I'm not 100% sure of my claim but... after all a
supersprint is pretty much just a hillclimb with 2 cars at the same time.
You're missing my point. My point is, if anyone cares to take it, that there are big fish out there with inaccurate timing, so a fun event like
raleigh, run by pretty much by 1 person from Kemspey car club, shouldnt cause any problems. If its not up to your standards then by all means, leave
your car at home on its trailer. Just dont make repeated comments that its a waste of time and suggest it shouldnt go ahead. Some people are looking
forward to it, even if you arent.
And before you pick that last comment apart, well no they arent your exact words but that is the way I see as the only interpretation.
Besides you HAVE to run. If you dont, then you know someone is going to be saying you were too scared. You're all welcome to a practice run at
Huntley Hill on July 11. Electronically timed (via light beams and hard wire) to .01 second accuracy. Even the clocks are checked for accuracy every
couple of years.
