am after bull bar to suit 73 kombi
Somebody told me they were rare - I really want one for my kombi. Any idears? And how much could i expect to pay.

they are not all that rare, is it for the blue & white Kombi ? because the later ones are much more common, but not interchangable

ouch so I will have to find one that suits my model then and not just sourced from any kombi ? that narrows the field abit

'Crazy George' had a '71 dual cab for sale in Brisbane which had a bull bar; who knows he might separate it.

that is correct, yours is the very last of the early model, the shape of the chassis under the later model is completely different funnily enough, wreckers seem to want a lot of money for straight bullbars. One thing you must accept is that the extra weight, quite well forward of the front axle , makes the steering heavier, so the more sustantial the bull bar is, the heavier the steering will be at parking speed, for this reason, an alloy bull bar is the most desirable but it is also very rare for your model. the tubular steel bullbars also tend to rust from the inside , in the curve where they go under the bumper bar, so check carefully in that area. A lot of people remove the bullbars from kombis & have them sitting around so just keep bumping a wanted to buy request for about a month, don,t rush it either, it is one of those things that once you get one, a better one turns up

How true! Mine was rusting from the inside at the curve under the bumper, so now it's sitting in the back yard (but it's for a late model, so no use to you).

As well as all that, they also hurt you angle of approach, so you might scrape on steep entries.

Becaus of the weight that kombikim mentioned, I'm looking at replacing mine with a nerf/light bar, without the spare wheel.

the one in my avator I made out of an alloy bar off a Suzuki van, with the "ears" cut off to give more turning room parking, and connected to a standard steel tube bull bar cut off rear of the point where it rusted out, utilising 6 mounting points to spread stress in minor impacts, it only weighs 14kgs but still has a noticable effect on steering effort, so is only fitted for long trips
