Dyno Day??
jakriz - December 8th, 2002 at 07:03 PM

Just got the latest VW Trends which I don't normally buy but there was nothing else at the Newsagent, & on the back cover they had what was going to be in the next VW Trends. It is a dyno day with one of the high profile Cal-Look clubs in California & they are going to print all the results & specs of the motors.
I was going to put my car back on the dyno next week before I pull the motor down to make some changes over Xmas but I thought it would be way cool if we do our own thing in Sydney. I don't know of any dyno's in Sydney so some suggestions or help would be most appreciatted, I'm sure that if it cost about $30 or so to get your car on the rollers & we had about 20 vw's , a dyno operator would be more than happy to have us there on a Saturday Morning.
What do u guys think? good idea , bad idea. I'd actually prefer a dyno day to a car show any day, I just love high performance VW's!
regards
Jak

That sounds like fun.....time to put all them cards on the table!!!!:D

jakriz - December 9th, 2002 at 05:09 AM

Yeh Pete I thought it would be pretty cool, we won't be competing for sheep stations, it would be just interesting to see what different combos put out as none have the same engine.

Jak
I would be in now that Blue is better.
There is one at Silverwater (SAS) on Silverwater Road and another one in Parramatta somewhere......
BUT
Last time my mate got his 3.0 CS BMW done a few years ago it was about $110.....but he got about 90 mins for that.

I guess some one might be interested in a pure measure run...no adjustments.

jakriz - December 9th, 2002 at 06:13 PM

Yeh just purely a measure run Barry. The last time that I used a dyno which was about 120 months ago it cost me $30. I put it on the dyno, took a few readings at different rpms & I was out of there 15 minutes later. I don't let anyone touch my car anyway!
I think that it would be a good thing

Jak

Would love to know how much axle breaking torque my 1600 SP is making.

helbus - December 9th, 2002 at 10:07 PM

I wonder if the 1300 will turn the rollers?

Peter

Pat - December 9th, 2002 at 10:40 PM

Maybe you should find a lawn mower shop with a dyno?

Bizarre - December 10th, 2002 at 07:52 AM

Jak

sounds great - I will give SAS a call and try and dig up a few others.

Bizarre - December 10th, 2002 at 08:03 AM

OK

Just spoke to a bloke called Ben at Port Hacking Automotive and he said yeah - around $40 per head. He is busy up to Xmas but in the new year during the week or on the weekend.
I said approx 12 people and as you say Jak - just for a couple of blats. Ben said it excludes air fuel ratio readings but that could be done just a few extra $$$$$$$$ as it is a limited life meter
I got his name from CSC @ Burwood and they say he has a good set up.

OK - who else is interested :bounce:bounce:bounce

speedster356 - December 10th, 2002 at 03:51 PM

Book me in......Speedster & Spyder.
I hope I have the 1916 in?:D

Secoh - December 10th, 2002 at 05:32 PM

I put the mustard menace on the rollers with a performanceforums.com dyno day, it was around $50 a run at Croydon Autosports.

the stock 1600TP with bugger all compression at the time put out a STONKING 25.4 RWkW :D

Happy to attend another one!

jakriz - December 10th, 2002 at 06:47 PM

sounds excellent Barry, thanks for getting that info. $40 sounds fine, we should maybe do it around Febuary , just before the Nationals drags??
We could even make it a yearly thing, that way we could keep tabs on whats happening every 12 months with improvements??
I'm open to all suggestions. oh & it would be a good chance to meet some of u guys as I'm a little isolated up here on the Central Coast!

Jak

Bug_racer - December 10th, 2002 at 07:48 PM

I'm in , I'll take the Golf out again , I got 85kw last time , might try cracking 100 kw with some cams and a chip

Hutcho - December 10th, 2002 at 08:58 PM

Count me in, I dont know what Ill take, but it'll be something from VW!! (I mean from my garage which originally came from VW).
Pete, how do you drive both cars at the same time! Ive always wanted to be able to do that, dammit!

Hutcho

Hutcho - December 10th, 2002 at 09:06 PM

Secoh, 25 rwkw!! (long drawn out whistle) Im sure the other guys from performanceforums.com were mightily impressed! Im sure some of them wanted to even swap you thier GTR'S!! Why dont we have a little thing where we'll see who has LEAST amount of kw out of thier registered, street driven VW! I know Ill be force to recon with! Clocked 4 times, 69 micro with 1500sp ball tearin' power!! Hopefully, Ill get there on time as long as theres no hills on the way!

Barry, whereabouts exactly is this dyno?
I'm not very good with the typography of Sydney, is it any where near Richards??
Jak

Bizarre - December 11th, 2002 at 07:48 AM

Unfortunately this is down at Tarren Point/Carringbah way. I have attatched a link at the bottom

I talked to Richard last night and he said he wants to take the turbo. I will give SAS a call today - they are closer to him

http://www.whereis.com.au/wp_search/result.jhtml?_DARGS=%2Fwp_search%2Fresult...

Bizarre - December 11th, 2002 at 08:12 AM

OK
SAS said Ok too but he wants $50 per car, based on a dozen cars.
These are all "just asking" prices so.....
He prefered a Saturday and said a maximum of 30 cars. I would come down to $45 if there were $30

Here is the link to that place.

Hmmm.....bloody long address. I will post then might have to edit

Yeh I just spoke to Rich Barry. He's keen to get my car on the dyno with the improvements I'll be doing over Xmas & also Joe's 2.8Litre type 4 monster as well!! It may give the Turbo guys a run for their money!
Can't wait!
Jak

Che Castro - December 11th, 2002 at 09:49 PM

jakriz - December 12th, 2002 at 05:05 AM

I have a trophy store below my office, I wonder if they could make me a little trophy for the VW with the least hp at the wheels???
Jak

Secoh - December 12th, 2002 at 07:37 AM

Hutcho, it wasnt as funny as the fact that it was running quite poorly (3 and 1/2 cyls) and had a leaky kadron pipe, so some mates spread the rumour amongst the more impressionable that there was a WRX motor in it, and as a stir they dyno operator set the scale so it displayed 194rwkW :D:D:D I only took it for the comedy factor :P

Grey 57 - December 12th, 2002 at 01:02 PM

I reackon thats a great idea. Was thinking about it last night. We could have an interstate Dyno comp.
Categories for most power, least power and closest to factory output for stockers.

I was serious about wanting to do this in Melb. Any other takers? :bounce

vdub2c - December 12th, 2002 at 01:20 PM

hey guys, either taren point or silverwater is all good, just as far for me either way...
i'll be there with my subaru powered beast... but it don't put out much hp... so no one has to fear...
my mate always wan'ts in with his stocker 1600tp bug.
is there room?
thanks guys, let us know dates, venues and what we're all doing for a cruise after we know how slow, err fast our rides go.

nice work fellas! :bounce

jakriz - December 12th, 2002 at 03:20 PM

I say either a trophy for the lowest or no trophy at all, just to keep the competition aspect low & the fun factor high!
