As a fitter by trade I am looking at the small portable tig welders ( the units with a strap that can go over your sholder ) that are on the market
who has what and there coments re the welder they have with a price on the model they have . thanks seagull
I would be looking to weld stainless steel and ally . up to 2 or 3 mm .
NO !!! my son bought a small one and they are next to useless. ( about as usefull as a chocholate teapot ) personally i would buy the best you can afford, over the $1500 mark. cheers, fish
Well i have not seen a tig which can weld ally for much under about 3 grand as you must get one with the high frequency start and it must be an AC current (I think) as the Dc inverter machines are great for stainless but useless for ally. The small esseti 140 comes in at around the 800-900 mark and is a top little welder for stainlees but as I said is useless for ally. Why if you are doing tig do you want one so portable as you still need to have the weight of you bottle anyway. Just go for longer leads. Unless you need it on site up a scafold or simmilar.
I have used a couple of different brands of welder and have had no problems with any . At the monent I use a 110amp Kempi and for Stainless it is great .As for ally you will need an AC/DC machine with continuous high freqency but you will be looking at spending some big dollars
nope not worth a nob of nanny goats shit you will need to spend eaps more than that to get anything good mine cost 12k you will need ac for ally dc for stainless and you wont find a good single phase machine either
