I read where the Bronze had to replace his Master Cylinder last week... Well.. I want to repair My Master Cylinder in My 68AutoBug.... Brakes are pretty important in an auto.... My Son had his Girlfriends Master Cylinder from her 1969 Baja Beetle repaired with a stainless steel sleeve and new seals etc for under $100 at a clutch & brake place.... sounds great.... that was over a year ago and its working fine....
i can get brand new german made ones for $140.
cheers
rhys
single or dual system master cylinder ? for that price.
Yes !
was it a single or Dual system for a 1969 beetle? and German... Where do You get them from Rhys ? I'll bet it's NOT from VVDS...
Well, actually it only cost $70.00 for the repair... 18 months ago... and there is nothing wrong with mine but I like the idea of a stainless steel
sleeve that never wears out and never corrodes or become pitted.... :o
I paid $168 for a german made tandem master for a 70 Beetle. It may have been cheaper to rebore and sleeve, but I cant have it off the road for that
long!
Peter
dual master cylinder!!!!!
cheers
rhys
p.s. i will be going to see the guy that has them on thursday most probably! i will get the full details of them then
Ok rhys....:o
Yes its OK to have them repaired if You have another vehicle for a week or so...
or are restoring a VW...:thumb
68 - Sounds like you got a good deal. Corrosion and pitting are actually pretty rare if the system is well maintained - it happens on old cars because they've had a lot of dud owners. Your stainless steel sleeves should outlive you, if you care for your beetle, if you've had a good job done, tell us who did it.
