well i was driving home from work tonite in my baja and just about to turn into my road which is a steep hill and a sharp corner so i was braking with my indicator on and highbeam on clutch in to change.........i had the clutch in for a bit and knocked it back to 3rd to take the corner and get some speed for the hill and accellerated...........the engine had stopped:o ........i pulled over....started the car again no worries........hmm engine running fine.....drove home (about 700 metres away) .......... dad took it for a run later this night to see if it was playing up......got it to happen again once.....same conditions....indicator, brakes, highbeam clutch in for prolonged period........has anyone else had this problem before? is it common?

i guess i just gotta change gears quicker and not let it sit in angel gear for long........:alien

Can you say BEETLE ELECTRICS ... I am betting there is a loose wire in your collection ...

Anthiron - May 8th, 2004 at 09:54 PM

oh mate.....u should see the dodgy electrics in this thing....we are gonna gut it and re do everything, it has been done by an idiot.....all in good time.....well i guess ill just live with it untill i get around to rewireing it...........sometimes a wire will change colour 6 times before it gets to where it is going.....its like he did the whole thing with scraps of wire he had and joined them together

700m in the pitch black uphill on a turn cant be too hard

All He needs are a couple of rear driving lights... :)

Make sure the earth strap goes from the chassis to the gearbox.. it should be right at the front of the gearbox..
this is the path for the ground current .... My Son left this disconnected, and when He changed gears the headlights used to dim.... until I re connected it up, after I had cleaned everything with a wire brush... other than that.. maybe a loose wire, strange that it only does it at that corner...
can You drive home a different way???

the clutch cable adjustment nut isn't touching any wires..??
Also Very strange that it starts back up again!!!!!
something must have made it stop!!!
You would think that if it stops the engine with the clutch in, & there is an electrical problem, why doesn't it do it everytime the clutch is operated...
Lets go back to the Blinker on.. High Beam is on.. Maybe try the corner with OUT the blinker on... Does it only do it at Night??
chapter 9??? Never drive in angel gear!! Who taught You to drive? You should change gear as quickly as possible.. You don't go into neutral - then wait until the corner comes up..
to change gear... I hope this is NOT a swing Axle Baja??

ha ha ha ha......nah...it starts fine again and i just drive up with high beam on......its just when the indicators and brakes and highbeam and clutch in that it does it

Wag67 - May 10th, 2004 at 01:37 PM

it's simple
Just don't brake for the corner or indicate.

Anthiron - May 10th, 2004 at 01:38 PM

no lee i dont normally drive in angel gear it was just a one off thing.....i wasnt in angel gear last night when it happend i only changed quickly and went to accellerate.......ill check the ground strap......and yes it is a swing axle baja..........

Sorry Nick,

I didn't mean to offend You, just asking questions that come to mind...
Angel gear going around a corner & up or down hill with a swing axle Beetle can spell trouble....
I rolled one just going around a corner slightly down hill...
many years ago..
Best of Luck with the problem..
