sigh.
i am hoping someone will put up a decent reply to this jonno and then we'll all know!!!!
i have given up on a stereo on the sqr. its too hard!!!!
i think my car is too low and too loud.....the ceedee player just keeps jumping because of the non-existant suspension and if it does play you have to turn it up so loud (to hear it over the engine)it bursts your ear drums.
sigh.
have to wait until i get more $$$.
........bah.
let me know how you go ?

I made up some boxes for behind the rear seat to mout 6 x 9s there and had special metal kick panels made for the front 1/4 panels to mount some 6 inches there.

you will need an altinator. htis is know from experience. my system would drain all the power from the battery in a trip from gorsford to chatswood, as the geny could not keep up with the power required. if you are going for miltiple amps and good sound get a dual battery set up and alternator. you will love it. you will never worry about not starting your car, even after a good belt of music at a vw meet.
as for where. if yur nasty about it. you could mount 6x9in the back shelf and another under the seats. some sixs in the doors with tweeters on the dash and some subs from the front bonnet section facing into the front foot well. yes you would need two holes but would be cool.

I agree if you are going to use a bit of power with the system get rid of gennie

i had 6x9's behind the fron seats, 6' splits in the doors and a sub in the back. don't ask bout sub sound as it never got hooked up.
been told 6'9's go in the rear dorr ok.
i don't recomend speakers in doors either. that is from experience.
amp goes under pass seat nicely.
best bet in my opinion is 7x10's in rear (on sides in the trim), 6's in the back seat in trim and prob 4or 6 inch in the front in custom boxes or mounts

hope it helps dude

awesome! thanks for the replies...
first thing is though, how easy is it to get an alternator conversion? and who would do it for me?
an only today i bought some small boxed speakers...normally for boats...and they have their own mounts...s i am gonna mount them under the dash and see hat kinda sound i get from them:D

Dual Battery, whats this about ? looking to setup a alternator and want to ask about the "Dual Battery" mentioned above .... how much it cost ? hard to set up ? need anything else ?
Thanks!

jonno-t3 - May 23rd, 2004 at 04:06 PM

well i am pretty sure they use dual battery setup's in 4x4's rigged for camping and outdoor trecking n stuf...my mates dad bought a kit that had all the wires, switches and instructions that u need plus the second battery. but i am sure that the setup wouln't be hard to mock up urself... bound to be somecamper owners in here that have either got one, bought one or made one themselves..

yeah jaycar have a kit,a s do most 4x4 shops. it sets up to charge teh main battery first (which starts your car and stuff) and then swithces to the acces battery (for stereo, rust inhibitor and what ever else you desire to run off it) pretty simple to install and set up. and in a split you have space for two batteries. one each side.

there are a number of companies in the u.s and u.k that offer similar speaker 'pods' to these:

as for rear speakers, i dunno, i'm still thinking about it myself. i don't wanna waste all my boot space just for a stereo, but i do wanna have a really good sound system (one day...)

ifound an example that looks quite acceptable....means u can have ur car start on the 1st battery and stereo on the second....once the charge is full on the first, it auto switch's to the second battery and replenish's ur audio battery, without effect towards the start up...so that would mean u could get away with having ur gennie? or just buying one of those newer generators? that are blue? i think...bosch makes them...i would like to know if they would put out a little more power than the originals...
