ROAD TRIPPIN?
~air fooled~ - May 29th, 2004 at 11:23 AM

hey all, just after some opinions on a vacation i'm thinking of having. probably august/september i'm planning on taking a week off and suprising the missus with a bit of a road trip along the lower parts of aus. my intentions are to fly from brisbane to adelaide and hire a car (maybe camper?) and do the great ocean road drive and end up in melbourne/maybe even sydney.fly home.
from your past experiences, is a week long enough to enjoy the sights from adelaide to sydney?? or should i just stick to adelaide to melbourne?? and is a camper a better option or car??
budget isnt much of a problem, just want something totally relaxing and enjoyable so i can show my kiwi girlfriend the sights australia has to offer!!:D:):D thanks all.............

Don't do it! It's too little time. You'll be on a tighter schedule than a Japanese Tour group.

Adelaide to Melbourne is cool for a week, particularly in a camper. The great ocean road rocks. Did it in my old camper and it was cool. There are good caravan parks all over the show.

It's a bit cold though at this time of year. Don't forget to take your plank and steamer. If you cant surf, learn! Some of those breaks are amongst the best in Oz.

On the other hand, Melb to Sydney is also quite cool. My pref is the GOR tho'. All the best!

the vw club of victoria is having a 6 day tour around victoria in october10-15,about 1500km's
taking in the gippsland lakes, the high country, goulburn murray waters, the goldfields, the grampiansand the great ocean road.
i reckon this would be ideal for you and you get to cruise with vw's!

We had the best car park at the 12 apostles. We parked, set up the pop top, opened our slider and ate dinner while the sun set.

It's all good tho'. Take your time and you'll see it all. I liked Apollo Bay a lot. Good place to camp.

URGENT - some of those roads are really twisty. Keep well under the speed limit when you have a heavy camper, and try not to travel at night. I almost lost it on one corner. Would have been a nice little flying trip down to a fiery, crunchy, wet death. Just a tip!
