I'm thinking of building a stretch vw bus. Let me know what you think of the idea!
http://www.stretchvw.com
be carefull. ive heard rumours that they are more difficult to get passed due to rule changes. obviously youve seen CBB's. theirs got rego'd but
apparently others cant now. so check it out.
i was thinking this...
roof up...
or this was the alternative taht a mate was thinking...
we were thinking same lines. take sections from one and graft into other. big motor conversion, kit it out and whalla.
they look SWEET!!
poor jobs will look warped
dude you have put serious thought into this haven't you??
I am in the process of building a limo at the moment for someone and there is quite a bit of engineering involved but a lot of it is actually simple
when broken down.
The biggest factor is weight.
Load rating for the axles is not to be exceeded.
The structural strengthening must be strong and light so as to not make the vehicle too heavy.
Bigger box sections with light walls give stronger torsional and anti- twisting strength.
The engineer I am working with stipulates very strongly nothing to be thicker than 3mm plate or wall thickness.
A lot of the RHS being used is 2mm wall thickness to keep the weight down.
Gussets in corners is important.
Front suspension bolt down points must be tied to the rear suspension bolt down points to tie both suspensions together. This does not have to be a
piece of railway line by any means, but for the stretch we are doing a 25 x 50 rhs was needed.
i heard rumours that indian could not get theirs rego'd even after all the talk he has on his site re approval this and that. is it true you just are
not allowed to stretch them anymore?
and yeah i did seriously think aobut it. it doesnt seem that it would be too hard.
Like I said the axle load rating is where you will come unstuck quicker than any other place.
hmmm axle load rating could be a problem, especially once a full-on interior is fitted and also if there's a big non-vw motor. Thanks for the info.
It would pay to chat with Mike @ CB&B's Sydney
He did the bay with 308 and would definetely have a lot of information on stretchin buses.
Cheers
Dianne
you can always try this instead
try that again
i was thinking today about a strech Manx....using a kombi pan and having an extra back seat....im not sure of demensions or if its even possible but it would make a cool beach vehicle for the whole family.
