As long as they are exchanging 'em for 70's and 80's GTI's and Sciroccos, its OK with me... Most of their stuff is rust ridden...

Sure is. Before I came out here the only rust free Dub I ever saw meant it had repro panels welded in all over the place.

Prices back in the UK are ridiculous aswell, especially for vans...

Dannyboy - June 16th, 2004 at 04:42 PM

Being a pom i can vouch for that! I nearly fell over when i saw how many notches were being driven around in Oz when i first got here. They are rare as in the uk! Salty , wet roads do NOT do it for me and thats why i've now got a 67 never seen a welder in it's life thanks to the Ozzy weather!

If you are so concerned, buy them first!!!

I seem to recall that there are a lot of split screen vans for sale on this site and none are being bought.
Guess they will be on there way to England soon.

Money talks.
Bullshit walks

Cheers

Secoh - June 16th, 2004 at 06:34 PM

robnjo - June 16th, 2004 at 06:34 PM

not much you can do,at least they'll get restored.
...then in 5-10 years you can import them...lol
but I'm happy, I bought a splitty off this Forum.

Dannyboy - June 16th, 2004 at 10:48 PM

Frenzix me and you will rent a huge place , with land for 2 , 3 houses and a massive hanger full of old saved dubs. It will be the largest store of oldies anywhere , we'll build heaps of dubs and we'll be rich selling parts!!! Sound good?

Dan:):):)

robnjo - June 16th, 2004 at 10:50 PM

we havn't got an endless supply of these
so its only going to make the one left here worth more
so you should buy one if you havn't aready
and enjoy something thats only going to get rearer here in OZ.

Dannyboy - June 16th, 2004 at 11:04 PM

Seriously like Frenzix if i had the space and cover i'd have a fastback , notch , splitty and T2 combi plus a couple more if i had the room. I am actually after a T3 squareback or notch to blast around in. Nothing fancy , just realiable with some rego on it. Gonna start looking next month

here we go again, where were these 18 found, on wasteland, barns, rotting away in yards, where??
and as for buying them all and storing them, this isnt a coin or stamp collection were talking about. And making heaps of cash isnt that what these guys are doing, so whats the difference.
Who cares change the record will yer!!!

Unity-28 - June 17th, 2004 at 05:57 PM

I have no problem with them being sold to wherever, I was just stating that he wont sell them to anyone here.....

N!

killakornkobb - June 17th, 2004 at 09:37 PM

i dont mind them going too much because they will be restored and happy..but i would rather then be restored and happy in Australia.. And if i had the money i would definatley get one myself.. but i dont, and im glad people like frenzix do have a few and are restoring them to stay in Australia.. if i chose to express the fact i would like them all to stay here i will. and if somone dosen't like it, well stiff shit. don't read my posts..

Maybe one day i will be able to get one, who knows:)

karmannghia60 - June 18th, 2004 at 12:11 PM

I feel people who are just buying stuff to stick them in a shed somewhere hoping that one day they will get to it are not doing anyone else nor Dubs a favour. Anyone who restored a car before know how long it takes. I thought I would finish mine in 6 months. Its been nearly 2 years so far. So if you end up with 3 or 4, it will be 10 years before you get them on the road. How can that be good for anyone or anything?
About a year ago, I responded to a Trading Post ad about some parts. Went to the guys house, he was in his early 60s and retired. Had a backyard full of VWs including 2 T3 Ghias and two Splitties. All in pretty bad shape and good for nothing except some parts. He has been "collecting" for the last 15 years also intending to restore them all. Sadly the fate of all vehicles he had was the tip.
