Yes and I hate it!!!!!!!!!!! I have had only four sundays off since last August . I am full time and the roster changes week to week I rarely get 2 days off in a row and weekends are extremely rare. I manage a Great Outdoors Camping Store

type3kid - June 20th, 2004 at 10:17 PM

nope, monday to friday purely

Josh01 - June 20th, 2004 at 10:24 PM

Yeh i'm a weekender too but i don't usually do saturdays. Sundays are my favourite day...time and a half yay!!! Does anybody else work at coles :P i don't intend staying there for too much longer tho, its just to get me thru school.

sleeper - June 20th, 2004 at 11:29 PM

yep....
work in hospitality.....been for years.....haven't been to any ...or not many familly events as they are on the week ends.....same for vw events....outings.....and as far as a public holiday off....not part of my world.....christmas day? means a busy day at work.....new years eve? a late night at work....new years day? busy day and have to put up with normal people that are hang over and went out the night before....but hey....i choose to do this profession that i like...and i also own my own restaurant i can't really complain.....

rozrob - June 21st, 2004 at 10:47 AM

well i work in hospitality as a chef so i too know the pain of working every christmas and new years while everybody else party's on. read "kitchen confidential by anthony bouraine" and you may get an understanding of life in the culinary underbelly. keep thinking of a career change but the longer you are in the industry the more you are hooked.
i suppose we had a year off travelling in our kombi so i really shouldn't be whinging.
scotee:)

used to but now I have LIFE and holidays

oval TOFU - June 23rd, 2004 at 02:27 AM

life? huh? I used to work Sat and Sun nights - NO LIFE! But now i work wed and sun nights... and 'full time' uring the week as I'm a freelancing graphic designer... trying to pull my finger out and do the 9-5 thing - ends up being 11-whenever...

Mad Manx - June 23rd, 2004 at 08:01 AM

I used to work nights in a chemist mon-wed and all day saturday/sunday and that SUCKED. All the drugo's coming in for needles all night. Anyhow after 3 years of that I cracked the shits and eventually got the 9-5 mon to friday I wanted :D

ratty 63 - June 23rd, 2004 at 12:35 PM

Yep, have been in retail (or hospitality) since I left school, except for a short period when I was working on aircraft - still in hospitality now, working 3:00pm to sometime in the early morning. Business is open 7 days a week, 365 days a year (yep, Christmas day and all the other public holidays too), althought I am usually only there 5 days a week.

On the positive side - if I get up early enough I can spend my days (until 3pm) working on my cars or cruising around here - much easier to get things done (purchase parts, etc) during the week and not have to stuff it all into the weekend, when only half the places are open.

Hopefully I will be changing jobs soon to a 'normal' 9 to 5 job - Anyone need a graduate software engineer? I can email you my resume if you are interested....anyone?
