Universal joint -> Universalverbindung
Driveshaft bearing -> Getriebewellepeilung

when translated directly

Seriously I did a translation on the web using http://www.worldlingo.com/wl/translate

steering box -> Lenkkasten
idiot dumb head -> stummer Kopf des Idioten

Groß, jetzt muß ich erlernen, wie man ein smartarse in einer anderen

Mate, I'm not one of 'em, I just lived there and Married one of 'em. Moreso, I made Kids TV over there (and Kids too), so if you wanna know how to make swiss cheeze or how many spines are in a hedgehog or how to procreate, you'd be better off.

I could give it a shot anyway, but I'll probably be wrong:

Driveshaft Bearing - Try Achsschenkellagerung nah, that's a stub axle bearing.

Antriebswellelagerung??? That should be it.

Ah stuff it! I've joined a German forum and asked there. Maybe we'll have some luck?

I've had a response from an Olaf in Germany. Here Goes Andy:

OLAF:constant velocity joint: Doppel-Gleichlaufgelenk zur Vorderachse.

ME: or "Double equal run joint to front axle"

OLAF: Universal Joint: Normales Kugelgelenk oder Kardangelenk/welle.

ME: Normal ball joint or "transmission tunnel joint shaft" perhaps also
"Kardanwellegelenk"?

OLAF: Drive shaft bearing: Antriebswellenlager oder eben das Lager für die obige Kardanwelle

ME: or "drive shaft holder", may also be "Kardanwellelager" as a single word.

He uses this translator - http://dict.leo.org/?lang=de

OLAF: Grüße down under.

Olaf

Hope it helps Mate!

BTW What's the deal with a 4 year old Passat needing replacements? What do you do with your cars down there?

Thanks for that wombat, helpfull, the deal with the cv joint is that when we bought the car 18 months ago the boot was split hence there was no grease, new boot fitted and heaps off grease, the wife does 1200 klms a week, hard to believe i know here in tassie, now the c v joint is just "clicking" on lock and very anoying, i have been quoted $985 and $455 big difference eh, just thought i would just try and get a replacement from germany, i have been informed that CV City here will recon it but as for the cost i have no idea, thanks again

No worries! Who you dealing with in D'land?

P.S. do I get extra points for the drive shaft bearing?

how so any k's in tassie? everything is like 15 mins away from each other.. was when i was down there :|

VolksFolks - June 23rd, 2004 at 02:34 PM

Hobart to Launceston to Devonport to Burnie twice a week

Hobart to Burnie = 380klm x 4 = 1520klms

killakornkobb - June 23rd, 2004 at 02:35 PM

wow.. very nice effort :)

vwombat - June 23rd, 2004 at 11:33 PM

Nah - not really. I had a 99 Golf over there and there are VW shops everywhere. Take your pick really. Just gotta find one that ships.

And I don't know if it'd be cheaper anyway. Would Mick's be able to contact someone for you maybe and chuck the bits on the next shipment?

Autoteile Unger were pretty well respected for price. Don't know if they sell original or good bits, or if they have an online order thingo. Maybe you wanna check it out?
