A crap day
nicko - June 28th, 2004 at 02:30 PM

I were heading down to Sydney on Saturday in my Bay, towing a trailer. The day was bloody windy as any one in the area may know and blowing the car all over the place. Any way the bus was going fine and sitting on the speed limit. Filled up at the 7-11 at Heatherbrae just accross the road from Maccas no worries. 20 minutes down the road still cruising at about 110 and the wind seams to pick up and become a head wind or so I thought because hey no quicker than 90 then 80 then 70 the Wyong Maccas. Strangely the head wind did not feel all that strong when I step out of the car and whats all that smoke coming out of the engine bay. Just the engine oil i spilt when i topped it up that morning? Oh well off for a toilet break and a drink, come back to take off and you guessed it no start. Turned over and sounded crook. It sounded bad and thought terminal but I rang the NRMA. The guy said fuel problem and I thought bulshit its more serious than that, but sure enough after showing him where the filter was, he said it looked dirty and changed it. Man it was dirty considering it had only been change about 5000km ago and what is that clear liquid at the bottom yep 107.9 cents a litre and it comes with a special non combustible additive that really ruins your day. Fortunately the NRMA man could get it going and I limped on for another 100 odd kms on 2-3 cylinders. 7 hours to do a 3.5 hour trip. Oh what a crap day especially with a 1 year old and 3 year old. Cant prove anything but I sure as hell know where I wont be buying fuel from. Anyway the car is now at the mechanics for some additional work other than just the tune up it was going to have.
I hope this never happens to any of you cause it makes for a really crap day
