hehe
1 unicode character = 2 bytes
1000 bytes = 1 kilobyte
1000 kilobytes = 1 megabyte
1000 megabytes = 1 gigabyte
1000 gigabytes = 1 terabyte
(Therefore you get 500 characters in one kilobyte, and a typical web page is about 50 kilobytes, plus graphics).

...you work in IT marketting?
: P
1 bit = a single digit number in base 2 (0 or 1)
1 byte = 8 bits
1 kilobyte = 1024 bytes
1 megabyte = 1024 kilobytes
1 gigabyte = 1024 megabytes
1 terabyte = 1024 gigabytes
1 petabyte = 1024 terabytes
....and so on
But to answer the original post, each post uses bugger all data. The post text itself would only be < 1% of the total data transferred each time
you view a thread. The code that is wrapped around the text for display purposes and the images make up a hell of a lot more data.
zac_smits - July 2nd, 2004 at 05:25 PM
i still think our problem comes from people like *crack*
<zac sits up...rubbing his face> okay, then, no problem at all here guys

Brad - July 2nd, 2004 at 09:23 PM
well in english not enough to worry about EVER .. 95% of the bandwidth is jpg / gif / bmp
So all the post on here account for less than 5% of 20 GB
ducky - July 2nd, 2004 at 09:28 PM
well last night I had a thread which became quite popular 12 pages there was lots of conversation and vw chat and forum chat and for some reason it
upset some folks and they had a go at me for threatening bandwidth probs etc...... the thread has now been deleted . If i did something wrong I would
like to know so it doesnt happen again

If you see "Lots"... that was me. Don't worry, they're not gone.
I'll restore it back when people stop posting non-VW stuff just to get more post counts.

Let me state it clearly I was not posting NON VW stuff just to get post counts. This has been misconstrued, misrepresented I am offended

Andrew is there a way a group of people can have a chat over a couple of days. I fined that not every one is on at the same time but you still like to
keep up with what’s going on. Ok the thread that I think has started this was a small group talking about different thing mostly VW things but its
good to share with people of interest. I’m sure the people involved including myself would be happy not to have a post count on this but I think it
makes the whole VW experience better.:thumb
vanderaj - July 5th, 2004 at 01:54 AM
"Test it out here" is probably your best forum for such a thread.
Threads in there get deleted regularly, though.
