Why aren't these kombis?
jenz58 - December 21st, 2002 at 09:58 AM

Just found this company in TNT backpackers mag.

Wish Uncle George could pay me one day, I'd love to see some old VW's being rented out here on the mainland. Good on Rent-A-Bug in Tassie for setting up:thumb

David in Albury, a 59 kombi would be excellent for transporting backpackers around up there if you wanted to get into that side of things:bounce

Well there's some good artwork here and bad, but hey what fun!!

Not bad, but let's face it,anything you do to a shitsubishi is an improvement.
Best accessory for one though is 10 litres of unleaded & a box of matches.

Agreed, the Mitsubishi vans are pretty ordinary. No were near the character of a kombi.

I like the idea behind it though. Kombi's would be great. Better art work needed though

Hey, bought a ticket and hope Uncle George pays me this week (me and 20million others I guess):)

Canoe tours sound good but not sure if we have time on this trip:):(

I'm so glad your using a '60 splitty as a courtesy bus, sweet!!:thumb

Really, art work or not someone should be supplying a market here with kombi's for rent. The number of people that come into YHA wanting to rent a vehicle or after small group tours. Hey I'd love to see it happen. They don't need to be classics but '60 - '70's kombi's and beetles. Guess setting up and insurance are the killers here.

damn right. they DEFINITELY need some Kombis. the other vans just look soo unnatural in funky paint. Kombis were born in it

Well first of all, I haven't looked at the pics, but I do like Mitsubishis and I did have an L300 8 seater with a 2 litre engine and a Starion Diff..... and I had it for many years and when I sold it, it still looked good... the only thing that stopped it going faster was the flat front.
Now if it had a split window front..... I would probably be still paying the fines...:D:D:D
and if I had a spare 10 litres of unleaded and a box of matches- I'd pour it over spook and light it...
I don't think He would be missed... as He only talks shit anyway....

Always did like the way people are 10 feet tall when they aren't standing within arms reach.......

The unfortunate thing is that if they were Kombis and the drivers lugged them up hills, thrashed them in first, didn't change the oil, or adjust the valves every 5000 km, they would become unreliable and the spares would not be as easily available in the outback.
I say let them kill a few Mitsu vans out there.
The L300 has one very good feature though. A lot of Hotrodders use the Front ends in their 350 Chev powered Rods. Small beam, rack steering and disc brakes all in one. Plenty of dead L300's to get them from.
