Fines related directly to Your Income******
68AutoBug - December 21st, 2002 at 10:03 PM

I have advocated this for a long time....
"that a speeding fine is Directly Related to Your previous years income or some other fair method" it is Law in a Few Countries ... I think Malaysia may be one..... [ A fellow was fined over a million rupees this year] On a long weekend with Many Millionaires driving their Expensive cars on the Highways - and driving well over the speed limit .... these people would be paying thousands of dollars in Fines......
and Us normal people paying $25-50.
What about LADY S..... causing an accident a few years ago in Her Mercedes Cabrio.. then leaving the scene of the accident and caught a taxi home..... She was fined [probably by a Judge who was a friend] $100-00... Now that was like fining One of Us 10 cents.....
What are Your thoughts on this?
No flames just comments please..
remember it is Xmas after all...:rudolf

Isn't that why we have the points system.
In Vic you have 12 points on your licence. Every fine you get , you loose points until you eventually loose your drivers licence.
Pretty fair system for leveling things out for mine.
I got a major (huge) speeding fine on a public holiday about 2 years ago. Could afford the fine OK but the 6 demerits (public holiday) was what really hurt.
Been driving within the law ever since.:tree

I think it would be grossley unfair.
It would leave "Normal" people paying the most and people who were rich enough to hide their income (Sorry, People who are TAX Efficient) Paying almost nothing. (Ask kerry packer how much he earns)

As you know I have just finished Uni and recently recieved my first fine of $351.00. If I was working fulltime this would be ok but as I'm now not recieving much work casual teaching paying a fine like this is just too huge. I've elected to go to court and ask the magistrate for community service as I simple do not have that much money at my disposal.

Hopefully the magistrate can understand that I'm willing to repay the offence but with a young family simply cannot afford feeding my family (myself, wife and two littlies) 2 minute noodles for a month.:(

i am sorry but statements like that really piss me off.

this whole country seems generally to revolve around punishing those who either strive to achieve a higher earning or those that are just fortunate to fall into it.
at the end of the day those that chose to speed should be punished all the same way. it should not have anything to do with your income other than the fact that obviously the more you earn the more capable you should be of reaching a greater speed.
now lets get to the real topic.... who has sped and how fast, where, when, what in and of course were you busted... i know this might not be a topic that every one agrees with, but as i myself am an addicted speedster and am one who is always at battles with my better half as to how many times i have sped (either by bike or car) and how many times i have been busted. but i am curious as to who else out there also is affected by this syndrome and maybe we can get a help support group started:D;):D
ill be brave and start knowing fair well that there maybe a few who will attack my actions but here goes
in oz i have achieved 270klm/h on a honda VFR800 on the m4 while actually heading out to see how my bus restoration was going one morning.
also achieved 260klm/h on a honda CBR600 on the way down to phillip island with some mates this year. unfortunately though i did get busted for leading the pack out of phillip island, caught on camera travelling at the ungodly speed of 106 in a 100 zone. thought that was a bit ripped off...
in cars the highest reached, in oz, was 245klm/h traveliing to canberra in a commodore ss company vehicle.

Hi Bronze,
I agree that is harsh.
I dont know if its the same up there but down here you can ring up the courts and tell them your broke and can you pay x per month. They are used to it and are generally pretty good.

Twoguns - I dont know if your trying to start a bit of controversy, but whatever.

I used to be a bit like you when I was young. generally everyone speeds sometimes even the most diligent of drivers can let the needle creep too high.
What your talking about is a different story.
Put simply mate if your lucky you'll die. If your unlucky you'll spend the rest of your life p*ss*ng and sh*t*ng in a bag whilst your loved ones spoonfeed your pureed vegetables, but hey at least your friends will think your cool (Until your backside hits the tarmac).
I was very lucky with my bike crash and just smashed up a shoulder, fourteen years later it still gives me trouble. I had friends who got worse. Riding a bike is dangerous enough without being dumb.

Sorry for the flame but reality is harsh sometimes.

Then again my dad always used to tell me.
"Never give advice. Fools wont take it and wisemen dont need it"

Bronze - Good Luck mate

two guns be carefull with the speed on public roads, there are a lot of people who don't even think about bikes when driving around. We wouldn't want to loose a good vee dub forum member.
Thought about competitive track racing?

I'll tell you about an old work mate of mine who I used to know (cause he's dead) who hit a car head on while speeding on a bike. There were 3 chalk outlines on the ground were the accident happened , but only one casualty. You can work out the rest.

I can honestly say that my time on bikes I didn't get much speed up as I was usually on trailbikes, at the most I would probably get up to 110 from not paying attention of I had a fast soundtrack on the headphones like dangerzone and found myself creaping up a bit.

I have sped but it was in fairly controlled conditions. My mate had recently rebuilt his RG Gamma 250 and wanted to know it's top speed one up and two up. I saw a mate in Highway patrol and we met out at the local airport and he colcked us, Richard one up (225) and me on pillion (203) and it was a rush.

As I have always had a dream of becoming a cop myself I have been very careful with my speed and licence, until recently I guess. I have lost a few friends to drugs and speeding, none seemed stupid enough to dabbled in both but there not here and I am.

I love you dad's advice Fatboy. Actually I recall getting up to about 200 as a test drive in my father-in-laws WRX. I was busy watching the round-a-bout coming up fast. I was excited but it was nothing better than the usual roll in the hay and the cops don't book you for rolling in the hay.:kiss
