How bad is your VW addiction?
vanderaj - December 24th, 2002 at 12:15 AM

I'm on my fourth, I'm sure there are people who have similar major VW problems. On the nb.org, it's called NBAD (New Beetle Affective Disorder). I know many of you don't suffer that particular complaint (I do, however), but...

Do you suffer? How many VW's have you owned? Tell us the ways...

The_Bronze. - December 24th, 2002 at 12:45 AM

I'm on my second. Proud of it.

If my mates hadn't caught on fire all all the time when we were learner drivers I might be up to my tenth, but instead I chose to ride the motorbikes - easier to get away from when there on fire.

Cruzin Qld in a camper kombi of my mate Jenni's was my pivotal VW awakening. It didn't catch on fire, started every time, and I didn't have to leap from it at speed.

Jay_1965vw - December 24th, 2002 at 09:31 AM

No category for me. I suppose I belong in the first section (only 1), but the byline "I'm still young, I think I can get a grip" just doesn't apply. My life is vee dubs. Just cos I only have one doesn't mean I don't have a serious addiction :D

vdub2c - December 24th, 2002 at 10:55 AM

umm hi, my name is yianni and i'm addicted to veedubs...

it started when i was 4 and would help my older brothers with their beetles...

had my very first bug when i was 12, cot me $100, that was alot of paper runs, i couldn't drive it so me and my brother fixed it up and sold it.

i bought my first car (a 1974Lbug) when i was 17 and have still got it... i then bought another 1969 bug when i was 18, and still have that one too.. (couldn't bring myself to sell my first ever beetle), then i bought another at the age of 20, my 1972 superbug and have still got that one as well.... and i just got a company car - 2002 2.0L Golf.

i have been bitten by the VW addiction... and quite frankly... i like it :D

(my mum doesn't though, i have 3 brothers... so each of them have a car, my mum has a car, my dad has a car and i have 4 cars.... people comment to us that our house looks like a car yard... and a vw museum - admission $2, if you arrive in a beetle then it's free ;) )

Keep Buggin'!

SKEWtYpe3 - December 24th, 2002 at 04:43 PM

i am geting comments from my girlfriend like "cant you talk about anything else"...and many more along those lines

I have two, my second going in for a full resto very soon

Pat - December 24th, 2002 at 05:40 PM

I'm not addicted, I can stop anytime I want. :jesus

KruizinKombi - December 24th, 2002 at 05:45 PM

I've got 5 at the moment, but I'm hoping to get that down to three very soon. (So I have room to buy more! :thumb)

I find that I have to consiously try to talk about things other than VWs, because the moment I get started I can't stop. Other people just can't seem to understand.... :o

vwrallycar - December 24th, 2002 at 07:32 PM

i got my 1st beetle when i was 17, and 11 years later i still have it. my '70 1500 i would not sell for the world ( owes me too much ) and is currently my rally car.
i also have as my daily driver a 79 golf GLD, which is my 4th vw.
my 2nd was my fantasic 71 super which i sold to buy my 3rd vw, a 91 golf GTI, which i unfortunately sold to buy my house!

11CAB - December 24th, 2002 at 08:13 PM

I'm a nutcase, not only are vw's my hobby, but I work on them for a living?!?!
I've lost count how many I've owned , but I've had beetles, bajas, buggies, kombi's, twincabs, and Baja Busses............
OK where do i sign in.........

Tazzielittle - December 24th, 2002 at 08:22 PM

Its nearly time for men in white coats and wraparound jackets 11cab!
:bounce
As for me......
I prefer my type 3.....
Its nearly a wife......
She starts winding when i try to take her anywhere..........
Most of the the time, half way there she spits......
She likes to have all my money.....
Doesn't like me looking at other ones.....
If you dont take the time she wont look nice when we go out!

Try and guess if i'm talkin about a car!

:cussing

matt - December 24th, 2002 at 08:31 PM

At the moment i have four in the backyard
1959 Bettle
1971 Super Bug
1970 Type 3 Wagon
Manxs buggy

plus lots of parts that i have picked up along the way.

I have also owned another 3.

Matt

The_Bronze. - December 25th, 2002 at 10:51 PM

Sal was going to get a sticker made up for my Baja cause I just won't shut up about them until she goes off at me.

"It's a Volkswagen thing - you wouldn't understand."

I think is would be quite true as so many people look and just wonder "what the hell has he done to that car -'you know, I used to have one of those but it didn't look like that!"

jenz58 - December 26th, 2002 at 09:14 PM

Only on my second but it is so hard when you see someting sweet!!!! The driveway shuffle is a killer so two is enough until I get it right. Don't need any one VW sitting too long before it's driven.

Did a swap around today. Bel is all washed and ready for the weekend and Dr L is ready to take me to work in the am!! :D

Grey 57 - December 27th, 2002 at 04:38 PM

1st - 56 Oval - absolute rust bucket. Ended up being stripped and dumped down a gully. Pushed it over the edge and was quiet fun to see it crash at speed into a tree.

2nd 55 Oval - Nice one but a bit rusty. Restored it to about 80% finished then had to sell it due to relocation.

3rd - T3 Square back - rusty but running OK. Fixed the mechanicals and used it for 6 months

67 Euro Spec Beetle with sunroof - Rusty but a rare one with sloping lights, 1500 and 4 stud wheels with disk brakes. Again 80% restored then had to sell as being relocated to Oz.

82 Golf Cabrolet - Kool car, 1.7ltr, 5 speed with a 80's style body kit. Was the wifes car really but I drove as often as I could.

57 Oval - retro fitted sun roof and other little gems attached. Needed the full works but sat in the shed for 5 years with nothing happening. Sold to make way for the current one

57 Oval - All hard stuff done (body work) just needed mechanical repairs. Good club car.
Thats it for me, only one. No room for anymore. But always have to have at least one.
:D

Andy - December 27th, 2002 at 10:29 PM

I may be a late starter, but am making up for it fast!
I'd been driving and maintaining my Girl friends '74 beetle for ~6 years, before I decided I needed my own. That's when I gave Kombi's a try.
Well we now we have two beetles and 3 Kombi's!
And they're far from my last.
Andy

Quickbug - December 28th, 2002 at 11:13 AM

Screw how many you own - its how much you spend on em!!

In that case i should be restrained and locked up..
I could use a rest in a padded cell...
