let me clarify when you say free standing do you mean off the side of the kombi????

I've got one of these on our kombi

the poles here aren't a neccesity, it supports itself but moves a bit if it is really windy

the one mine has is similar but different, lika a caravan annexe with supporting arms that come back to the kombi body

I've got an original VW full annexe but haven't got any digital photos of it till after the weekend at Valla...
