Well I've decided to go spend new years with an old friend in Sydney. I'm going to be driving up in my bug.
In preparation for the trip, I've done all the normal service stuff (oils, tune, susp. greasing)
Now what else should I do to the car before I go?
I plan to stop every two hours to give the car a bit of a rest, basically I want this to be as stress free on my car as possible.
So if you're in Sydney and see a beige bug with the plates "VW 060" say hi, or stop to help me put out the fire.
Wish me luck!
Good luck Pat, and have a great New Years.
Take a spare fan belt, points and tools. Oh and clutch cable if you can.
PS did you get that carb on and did you get the pipes off.: beer
Thanks Dean, you have a great new years too.:beer:beer:puke
I forgot about a spare fanbelt, I'll have to sort that out.
As far as the carb goes, I'm waiting on a carby kit, so I rejetted the one that's on the car. Tailpipes are still there, haven't really
had time to stuff around cutting them apart. Hopefully they magically fall off on the trip.
Still haven't got a stereo in it yet, so it's gonna be a looooong trip.
Pat
Pump the tires up and dont push the car to hard... just cruise n keep it around 100 or so.
the road pretty good now days. If you do stop n check the oil make sure your on level ground n leave the car sit for about 5 minutes before you dip
the stick.
Use the same oil you have been using in Mel n dont mix it with stuff from a garage.,
Where abouts will you be in Sunny Sydney. Your welcome to come along to our club meetings
Neutral Bay, I think. Or somewhere near there.
I'm not sure about the club meetings, as I'll only be in town for 4 or 5 days. But I will try and check out some of the Sydney vw shops like
VVDS, and maybe Volkspares.
OH thought you were comming to live n moove away from that drab place called MELbourne.
Volkspares is in Mel from memory.
What dates are you comming up here
Oops, I meant Volksbahn.
Move to Sydney to live?, nah I'm not nearly pretentious enough!:P
I will be there from the 30/12 to about the 5/1.

How did the trip to Sydney go Pat?? You get back OK:P
Yeah, I got back last night.
Sydney was pretty cool, spent NYE at a house party, which had a spectacular view of the harbour bridge, and the fireworks.
As far as my car goes, there were are few dramas, namely another fuel blockage in the carby, a broken accelerator cable, and on the way back the belts
on one of my tyres decided to peel off (gotta get some REAL tyres). But apart from all that it went pretty smoothly.
Did you go on the cruise to Apollo Bay?, if so how was that?
Oh and before I forget, thanks for the:beer:beer Dave:thumb
Hope you enjoyed the Crownie at VVDS Pat... I had to go n do some more work on my 65 resto.
U must have fitted the cable OK cause looks like yr home now.
What speed did u cruise along at ???
Yep Pat , I went on the Apollo Bay Cruise. Had a great time. Great Ocean Road was a great drive. There's a couple of posts with pics and all.
Good to see you back OK. Not too many troubles with car then. Nuthin major anyways.
Dean
Well Dave, I was cruising at around 60mph, but I went through one of those speedo checks they have on the hume, and it turned out I was cruising at 87kph. And I was wondering why it took 12 hours to get to Sydney.
Pat it sounds like your speedo is a optomistic as mine.
Geelong road speed thing says 94 kph Oval speedo says 65 mph Hmmmm !!!
A least I never get a ticket
