Rimmer: Oh, speaks! And how many books have you read in your entire life? The same number as champion the wonder horse: zero!

Lister: I've read books.

Rimmer: Uh, Lister, we're not talking about books where the main character is a dog called "Ben".

Lister: I went to Art College!

Rimmer: You?

Lister: Yeah!

Rimmer: How did you get into Art College?

Lister: The normal way you get into Art College. The same old, usual, normal, boring you get in. Failed me exams and applied. The snatched me up.

Rimmer: Ah, but you didn't get a degree, did you?

Did Lister get a degree???? Pick the right answer and explain why if you like

I was looking for Rimmer's timetable for study revision and decided to do a poll. The weather is bad here today, it's felt like late afternoon all day - dark, wet, windy and cold. A good day for not doing much.

I think we have at least three RD freaks here. I must get around to owning them as they come out on DVD.

I have seen a few episodes, and liked the humour but I guess it must have been in a timeslot that was inconvenient to me. Got a few net friends in the US who are VWheads + SMEGheads too. Cant picture an american watching non US TV but it must happen. Hmm they like monty python too. Maybe I am too harsh on our bomb dropping allies. Or maybe they think Britain is a US state.

Good to here there are some people in the US with a sense of humour. I found when I was over there that our dry humour flies over their heads. We can be a bit harsh on them at times, hey but so can they. Naive is a word I'll use ahead of ignorant. Met some really great people over there who actually thought for themselves and you could have a decent conversation with. Also had some crazy woman come running down the street after me thinking I was a star from her favourite soapy, which I'd never heard of before, scary!!

I love Red Dwarf... but I think there is very good comedy from most places. States has given us Simpsons, Frasier, Friends, Sex and the City & South Park.

South Park especially is totaly influenced by British comedy, Matt and Tres say their biggest influence is Monty Python.

Used to like the Paul Hogan show... back in the day

SMEG HEAD. My BF's son wears my smeg head t-shirt. He wore it to school one day and the science teacher told him ehat smeg mean't. We have a brand of fridges over here called Smeg (scuse my ignorance - you probably have them in Oz too) and every time nipper sees an ad for them he bursts into laughter. Oh to be 15 again.

I love Red Dwarf. They don't put it on the tv here very often now though.
In fact apart from The Office and The Fast Show there isn't many good comedys on anymore.

I've heard of SMEG appliances but not sure if we have them here

I love a good comedy. Have to admit I like Frasier and Friends. South Park is wicked but I did get sick of it. I tend not to watch reruns of these though like I do the British comedies

Hmmm, one thing I miss about cutting off cable TV is the lack of a comedy channel

Wow its really been a long time since i have seen Red Dwarf, they used to re run it all the time, maybe the over did it but i loved it.

I think our comedy is really great, love most of the british stuff its either very messed up or quite intelligent, Like a fair bit of US stuff too!
Not really seen any Aussie Comedy! Do you have your own

Not so much sitcoms but some good live or recorded comedy/variety/political satire type shows

Melbourne comedy festival is coming up soon they usually televise a couple of the big shows later on. Usually the big Gala Comedy Show which raises money for Community Aide Abroad/Oxfam; the Golden Moose Awards for best new comedy and some of the great debates

There is a fringe comedy festival at the same time/part of it

If it's anything like Montt, Black Adder, The Young One or The Goodies then I could really get into it quite easily.

Couldn't help but laugh here the other day when I was reading quotes of Faulty Towers. John Clease is my favourite - I think I might have my Drama kids doing the 'ministery of silly walks' one term next year.

I will keep an eye out for Red Dwarf and make sure I tune in when it's on next.

A few of us were sitting in our circle on the week-end and started talking about 'Thunderbirds', we all knew it and loved it, then talk went on to RD. Must be why our little group gets on so well and are usually laughing our heads off!!:thumb

Sorry Jenz, but I'm NOT a big fan of Red Dwarf, but I have seen EVERY Seinfeld episode 5 times including the Pilot which was on the other day.. which only had Jerry, George & Kramer in it. The Cafe was Different and Jerry's Bike was missing from His unit. and NO Elaine !!!!!
I used to watch the Goodies and Monty Python, but I still watch Fawlty Towers every chance I get.... I also enjoy Becker..
I have watched MOST old Australian Comedy shows which were great at the time.... :thumb

Yes, I have to admit.... I am a Star Trek fan, and also enjoy "most" Sci Fi shows..
If its believeable I can watch it.... If I don't think its believeable I can't watch it.
I like to watch the later show.. I think its called "Enterprise" but I don't like "deep space Nine " sometimes.....:puke
