as i sit here and look out over the windswept dust bowl that used to be my paddock, i was just wondering, is it me or do more of us have pet names for
our vw's? and if so, why and how did they come about? (i know, i need to get a life or it has to rain)
My current daily driver is a 1975 kombi called "Ned" but that is because it's number plate used to be NED 70H which for the dyslexic is holden
spelt backwards,(and that in itself is another tale). Prior to that was "Bert" the beetle (a 68 bug) and i am currently eyeing off a 1970 vw which
looks very much like "Nancy"....
yes it's ok, the men in white coats have been alerted and are at this moment roaring up the dusty rd, but am i the only one?
Well we named our kombi 'Winky' cause it has 2 different blinkers on the front and well...... we just came up with the name Winky. I think it suits it.
my first sbug was the beast but when its reborn it shall be chaos. my old man has bluey and daffodil
My first one was called Vernonica and she was a beauty
Did nothing to it besides get the valves ......?fixed ? in those days I was even more ignorant about cars than what I am now.She was white with a lime
green bonnet and just beautiful. Used to travel between South Grafton and Coffs Harbour every weekend and don't remember once ever checking the
oil.
My current VW some 23 years later is Vern and has a much easier life and is much better looked after.
mine is called boris, don't ask why I just like the name. so of course when dad bought his we had to call it doris
Boris sounds really tuff
And I bet Doris sounds like a sweet little thing
Are your cars boys cars boys or girls ?....in the case of Winky its a bit difficult to work out
Boris and Doris is a little easier
boris is red, doris is purple
only thing is doris sounds like a v8 and is meant to be a girl, boris sounds like your usual dak dak and is supposed to be a male... maybe doris is on
hormones
Maybe Boris has MAN BOOBIES !!!!!!!!
i know chaos is 100% testosterone charged male.
Vern is a mans man through and through
He gets all the looks too and he enjoys it !
i think the one im driving though is female. definitely female for the amount of problems its caused me
These are all my daughters
Bertie (as in beetle of course) 74L Orange
Suz (my mate bertie wifes name is suzie) 74L White
Ken (had a Kenworth sticker on it) 75L Orange
Suz got wrecked today so that was a bit sad but parts will be used to freshen up Bertie who is a daily driver and Ken must be going early next year
for other daughter.
AND I have a 66 Panel ex PMG with no name but may get "the General"( as in Post Master General ne Telecom for you youngins)
Ned My thoughts are with you as I spoke to my old man who now lives in Bermagui and said it was as dry as nuns kiss
He is an ex central NSW farmer
Cheers
I am with you in the thoughts department
Never seen it so dry
A mate has a property at Stanage Bay (Shoal Water Bay) and holy shit its so dry the grass that there is crackles when you walk on it. We really need
some good rain before it gets too hot
Vern74
Had a bit of a giggle with what you have written after your location
Do you mean as in toast lol (perfect as in dry at the moment)
Need any bits for your bug?

hahahahahaha
Yeah I hadn't thought of it like that
Gladstone = toast
i need a glove box lid but apparently they are as rare as rocking horse Shit
Other than that I just have to replace hood lining, get the front seats reupholstered and he is done.
Oh and he has to go the "rack" to get a crease taken out ?
I don't know much about that......the nice man at the panel Shop will call me when he is ready to do it. All I know is that he scraps his tyre on the
mud guard when turning left under brakes and having a full tank of petrol doesn't help

A bit rude AYE !
But its a fact of life when age starts catching up with men
mine's currently known as the fat chick, but i am still working on something shorter
Generally at work it's refered as 'TONKA", sits high, big tyres and is orange( mellow yellow is the original name, where the hell do they get the
names for some of thier colors )

well, surprise surprise, my little bundle of joy is Bertie Beetle. When dad bought it about 5 years ago we named i tBertie because it was a
bluish-green, the same colour as the chocolate version's wrapper. We name all of the cars in our household now, its a bit lame, but it makes it easy
to know who has what car.
Bertie Beetle - 1962beetle
Frankie - 2000 Ford Festiva
gary - 2003 Hyundai Getz
'The Phantom' - 2003 purple Ford XR-6
plus, we used to have
Vinnie - 87 nissan pulsar vector
and
Mario - 2000 Mitsubishi Magna Altera
My bedroom also has padded walls.
oooh, medication time. :bounce
:rudolf:bounce:bounce
my kombi has a number of nicknames.
its "official" name is dubster,
but its also called the beast, the bomb, the brick, the dub, etc
i just call it baby
my 68 is named cherry, partly because shes red and partly because theres a cute cherry sticker on the back.
tho i sometimes call her b*tch when she deserves it. :P
:sandrine
Mine is called "the Old Girl", which is kind of funny when I am the same age as her (1961).
Judy
my 77 bay is called "bombi" my wife named it because she didnt like old cars now i make sure i drive her everywhere in it and 3 drives later she loves it "sort of"
Mine are called "the red car" and "the white car".
You will have to work out which is which
