1303Steve - August 21st, 2004 at 10:28 PM

Hi

Well today was a sad day, I bought my bug in 1973, today I sold it. I have kept lots of parts from it to put on my new project. At the moment I dont have a bug in my garage, 1st time in 33 years, my new 1973 1303 will be coming home as soon as I finish some long put off work around the house. It has nice little 1600 in the back now.

1302Steve, soon to be 1303Steve

ps added photos that were lost from this post

Hi Steve

He sold a 911 to buy it. That car was the rehearsal, now for the main event.

A sad day indeed my friend.. Ahh well, onward and upward..

There's no future in the past Steve!!

VWCOOL - August 22nd, 2004 at 05:14 PM

... but the past puts the present in perspective!

Gee, Steve - I have no idea how you'd feel right now. A bit wierd.. I dont know how I'd feel selling my VW, and I've only had mine for 14 years

All because you can do better Hey!
One less beetle in the neighbourhood!

ned - August 22nd, 2004 at 05:41 PM

sad day indeed, lucky guy who bought it tho. good to see he's come up in the world from a 911 to your bug!

(you got a healthy supply of wood in the background, weather warming up is it?)

1303Steve - August 22nd, 2004 at 06:14 PM

Hi

You know what they say, if you don’t learn from your past mistakes your bound to repeat them. I don’t feel as bad as I thought I would, maybe because I will have a new project to work on soon, if I had just gone cold turkey with no new VW I think I would have felt worse.

Silver, early September I’m going to bring the next one home, there’s goes the neighbourhood. The other cool thing about the new one is that parts from the yellow car and Barry's Blue74L will go into it. The yellow car ended up with the locks, rear suspension and brakes from Blue74L's car.

Ned, that’s only part of the wood supply, I have a 100 metre long driveway (had the bug sideways heaps of times up it) so I have plenty of space for wood, being pyros as well we need to keep plenty on hand

Steve

geez steve, even my wife has a tear in her eye................end of an era.

I hope the new owner has it for another 31years.

555bug - September 6th, 2004 at 12:27 AM

Steve I'm sure I speak for a lot of young guys when I say that your car is what prompted me to buy a bug in the first place, and undoubtedly had a lot to do with the popularity of the German/Aussy look world wide. I can't wait to see what you have in store next, I'll bet its something extra special :) all the best with it.

Che Castro - September 6th, 2004 at 09:02 AM

Sad day :( that car was awesome

Baja Wes - September 6th, 2004 at 12:20 PM

geez I've only had my Baja for 9 years, I got a fair while to go to break your record.

You should've just put it in your living room in a big plastic bubble steve, it's all about the memories :)

Good luck with the new project, I'm sure you'll have fun!

KruizinKombi - September 6th, 2004 at 02:39 PM

That must have been a painful decision Steve, Heather only had our bug for two years, and she was a bit distressed seeing Ned drive it away. :(

1303Steve - September 6th, 2004 at 11:17 PM

Hi

Thanks for all your commiserations. Its pleasing to know that my bug had an effect on other people.

2004 was such a long time ago.

lou0060 - August 23rd, 2014 at 10:34 PM

if Steve stopped reading 10 year old posts he would have all those jobs at home done and be able to come to Warwick this year......:no:

1303Steve - August 24th, 2014 at 07:32 AM

Hi

A bit over 10 years ago a treated pine retaining wall rotted away, I've just finished the new wall, concrete this time.

It took quite a bit of time to get the yellow bug ready for sale and my 50th was coming up very soon so I as we were having a party at my house I had lots of stuff to get ready around the house, I wasn’t allowed to bring my 1303 home until after my party.

I had to look a fair way back to find this post, I saw a lot of names on posts that have disappeared, like Dodge, 2.63home brand Baja & Jenz58 to name a few.

Hope you're ready for a rematch Lou, just found out that I have the weekend off for Warwick.

Steve
