They technically aren't spiders.

They are also a bit smaller than they area from that camera angle. They are about the size of a dinner plate.

The yanks are stupid as usual. They pose no threat to large mamals like humans.

They "chase" people only because they are sensitive to direct sunlight and chase people to stay in their shadow...

I can understand the fear tho - the buggers can run at almost 10mph

its amazing how evolution works... survival of the fittest sees a photosensetive spider living in the desert where its ALWAYS sunny, and has no shade.
i think darwin f'ked that one up pretty good.

off the topic sort of... but seeing as we are talking about ugly animals that evolution forgot about,
have u guys seen the naked mole rat?
http://nationalzoo.si.edu/Publications/ZooGoer/2002/3/nakedmolerats.cfm
its like a wrinkly penis with buck teeth!! Funny stuff!!

jenz58 - August 22nd, 2004 at 11:57 PM

Resto 64..I'm not going to look at that footage.....:jesus

I close my eyes as I scroll past the pic up top......just like reading the comments...

Good one baybuscamperkid.....find their nest and you'll find the WMD.....a whole army of these creepy critters mutating as a result of radioactive seepage from rusting nuclear warheads!!!!!

....where else do these things live.....in all middle eastern deserts?....There goes my travel plans for the region........

Resto64 - August 23rd, 2004 at 12:01 AM

they freak the shit out of me as well :P

jenz58 - August 23rd, 2004 at 12:08 AM

Boozer - August 23rd, 2004 at 10:54 AM

i'm gathering an army of these little guys and i'm gonna take over the local Ice cream shop and ride around in the Mr whippy vans singing mole-ratty songs. Yeah!

~air fooled~ - August 23rd, 2004 at 11:12 AM

swwwweeeeettt holy moly!!!!

VWFREAK - August 23rd, 2004 at 12:16 PM

I've just spent 6 month in Iraq and I can tell you, I'm bloody glad I never came across these. Then again I wasn't sleeping in the dirt with the rest of the grunts. I heard some cool stories about spider and scorpian fights though.

Baja Wes - August 23rd, 2004 at 12:25 PM

if you look in the top right of the pic you can see the guys palm of his hand, so look at the spider size relative to that. So it's bigger than the spiders we get here, but not by huge amounts. And as matt said, not technically spiders. just eight legged freaks.

boersch - August 23rd, 2004 at 06:49 PM

<-- arachnaphobic, thanks

bertie_beetle - August 23rd, 2004 at 07:26 PM
