Porsche 356 replicas
stephenianjames - August 24th, 2004 at 09:37 PM

Hey folks,

Does anyone know if Porsche 356 replica kit cars are available in Australia, and if so, at what cost? I've been toying with the idea of building one (dont really want one already built). Would prefer coupe (not convertible) but open to either.

Otherwise, anyone know of any incomplete projects?

Cheers,

Steve

There is a company in NZ that do them. Can't remember the name but a basic kit was 16k NZ which would equate to $200 AU I think.

Platinum Speedsters in NZ. I was talking with Nigel (Platinum)yesterday and he mentioned he is getting out of the Speedsters and just doing the beach buggy. Selling the molds and all tooling. There are another set of molds in NZ, the ex Grahame McRae set but I have not heard anymore about them.
Forget about the Sydney guys selling the Speedster on behalf of Platinum, they have goowwwnn.

When you look at the prices it not hard to see why...:o

It would be cheaper to buy an original.

Bugger...if the sydney guys are getting out of it, are there any other Australian suppliers, or would I need to import a kit from the US or the UK?

Best option is to look around the States for a shitter that was manufactured more than 15 years ago and import it to get around all the registration problems here.
