Does anyone in the Brisbane area know any trimmers who have done Beetle ragtop restorations? And any ideas on cost?

Preparing for a ragtop installation.........:thumb
I figure an open top is closer to a buggy...
I'm still rubbing it back, and have the cuts to make.

what sort of rag top you putting in?

Its a Britax, but the top has gone brittle and cracked, also the front steel frame under the material has rusted away, so I'll need to fix that before it gets trimmed

Graham

If i was you i would look up the phone number for chucks Convertables in LAX and ring n order a fabric top for your car in the same material as the Merc convertables are done in.

I fitted one from chuck to my 65 sea blue and i can not fault it.... takes bit of stuffing around as i had to fit glue and stretch it 7 times to get it into every corner and fitting correct due to the type of material it is....

BUT IT THE BEST get a trimmer to do the interior headliner after you have done the roof fitting.

When i first put it on it was 50mm short so i tied it to the garage wall and left over nite with heat lamps.... the material is really great and moved easy the corner were a bit of a buggar use G clamps to hold while the glue dries and the material streeettttchhhes takes a while but GOOD.

Dave, is that for Golde rags or Britax? or does it matter?

just a quick Question...How do you adjust the Cam in the Britax, so when you close and lock it, the front lip comes down?
mine don't come down snug if ya know what I mean:jesus

Thats for the Goldie only. I presumed you had and origional roof.

Off to the trimmer if you have got a Brittax type roof.

Not sure how to adjust it, mine is curved at the front and seems a snug fit

Not sure if he has done ragtops before but Stuart at All Car Interiors at Enoggera has done a lot of VWs - I have had two beetle interiors done by him and he's also done my old man's corvair convertible (including roof) with great results.

Worth a call - not overly cheap but his work is excellent, very old school workmanship.

Yeah I know about Stuart, he runs a V8 Kombi
