Flat 4 are the best repros they are well made but the cost $2000 a set!

The Jap ones are the only ones made The shops in the Uk buy them from Japan.

Dave,

I'm fairly sure Midland Wheel Supplies in the UK do a BRM copy. Supposedly 'rougher cast' than the Flat 4 but also half the price....

Well if they do, I would still rather pay Jap yen for them over Pounds. The pound i a killer.

Have you got any pics of the UK ones??

Just checked. They have a website at

http://www.midlandwheels.com

Not that intuitive to drive - point at the spokes on the wheel on the opening page!

Pic of the BRM there (has BRM cap too - on a repro?). 90 pounds each. I imagine you'd double that by the time you landed em with freight, duty, lodgement costs and freekin quaratine inspection etc etc

"I imagine you'd double that by the time you landed em with freight, duty, lodgement costs and freekin quaratine inspection etc etc"

i would say more like 4X.
The pound is 36p so you are talking $270Aus just for a wheel. add 10% GST and 15% import duty and you are up to $340 ish.
Then add freight.

Cant see how you would get out under $1,750 a set!

Thats still pretty good for good looking wheels...

Cheers N!

I have the flat 4 brms on my beetle, and have seen up close the uk mws brms (my mate had a set for a while before selling them recently).

both wheels look great on a vw, but there are a few subtle diffs - the casting marks on the polished spokes are rougher on the mws brms (you can see fine maching marks - only noticiable from about a foot away). The black paint on the spokes is more glossy on the mws versions - the flat 4s have more of an "orange peel" appearance. the bolt holes are countersunk more in the mws versions - ie. the wheel lugs sit further into the wheel. Supposedly the offsets were slightly different but I bolted up my flat 4 brm onto his 58 beam then his mws brm (both had identical 145 michelins) - could not tell a big diff in fender clearance.

finally, the centre caps on the mws brms had a sticker on an alloy cap whereas the flat 4 caps writing was printed on the actual cap rather than a round sticker.

I think flat 4s are 5in (correct me if I am wrong) width but mws were 5.5. A 145 was a squeeze on the mws but still looked cool.

My mate bought his mws for $1600 but bought them off a guy who paid more to get them in. I think the flat 4s are around $2200.

hope this helps
Alan
