I'm thinking of doing a beetle cop car
sax - January 7th, 2005 at 10:08 PM

I've been having visions of doing a cop car or maybe even
a state trooper black and white.

How close to an Aussie cop car can I get before the patience is tested with the real plods?

Im guessing the word police is forbidden and probably any checks in blue and white. But I could do it in German....

would look cool ,because it would be different to anything anybodies got:thumb:thumb

sax - January 7th, 2005 at 10:23 PM

That was the whole idea.

I'll have to do it in a foreign language to get away with it.

Desert Moose - January 7th, 2005 at 10:24 PM

what a cool idea,

one thing I do know is you can't put lights on the roof :cussing

68AutoBug - January 7th, 2005 at 10:26 PM

This was done at the VW Nationals in Sydney a few years ago... And they were real Highway patrol cops...

they had permission to use the real stickers etc for the day only for display purposes...

Everything had to be taken off before it went back on the road....

68AutoBug - January 7th, 2005 at 10:28 PM

I thought it was a thumbnail...

Not a good photo anyway to see the stickers etc...

I only took the one photo too... Rats...

Lee

I'll see if I can do it larger...

sax - January 7th, 2005 at 10:33 PM

I'd be cheeky and mark them up as Highway patrol complete with fake radar unit and lightbar.

And to demonstrate the true meaning of the highway patrol, I'd plaster plenty of Bankcard/Visa/Eftpos decals on it as well.

maybe some Krispy Creeme sponsorship?

Freddie Fender - January 7th, 2005 at 10:46 PM

I'll pop up and help in the painting.

Anthiron - January 7th, 2005 at 10:48 PM

u could get a removable flashing blue light with a suctioncap to put on for shows and stuff.

Dasdubber - January 7th, 2005 at 11:08 PM

How bout along these lines?

I think there are laws against certain colour flashing lights etc so you'd have to check that too.

DIY-DUB - January 7th, 2005 at 11:36 PM

i also considered this as an option when i 1st got th ebug but couldnt be f'd doin it, go 4 it m8 id like 2 c it

Resto64 - January 7th, 2005 at 11:40 PM

saw a movie i think it was Brazilain but it was set in the 60's - 70"s and they had some cop cars white with black guards i think it was call city of gold or something???

68AutoBug - January 7th, 2005 at 11:47 PM

12 years ago it was illegal to SELL or Own a Blue flashing light....
A friend wanted one for a disco..... but Never got one.....

You can buy new ones these days... I'd say its highly illegal to have one on Your car though....

I have an original Blue Flashing light....
I'll have to check to see what condition its in....

I wonder what happens to all the light bars etc when they change cars, as new bars are used... and the old model radar units etc.... ??
Someone must have them....

Maybe they have to be destroyed...??

kroozzn63 - January 7th, 2005 at 11:52 PM

hell yes thats an awesome idea love the sheriff rat rod but on a budget
the first model car that would be the best complete with german markings should let you get away with it , you could make a speed camera out of a hair dryer and dress up as a slezey german cop ha ha "to many police academy movies "

The lightbars are used for two models and then sold on to either other sataes or countries. They are containered and then exported. At over 1500 each they are used a fair bit before forwarded.

About every second model they use they put on a new light bar so if memory serves me government purchasers trade at about 50k so light bars gat 100k up and then replaced.

I like the rod the best.

ColumBUS - January 8th, 2005 at 09:13 AM

ruckus - January 8th, 2005 at 09:15 AM

Man you've gotta do the German cop car thing, the dark green with white guards. That would be a definite standout!... POLIZEI

Sax

if I can get onto my other hard drive at my house (I am at work) I have a baja cop car from Holland last year.

As for light bars out here, you have to have a permit to have them on the car (from memory) in NSW, and the permit gives special conditions for the use of the lights. I remember this from the inside cabin of a few fire tenders during bush fires, I got to read the permits while we were moving from fire to fire.

I'd def go tteh foreig language thing though, I know it is a punishable offence to represent yourself as a Cop, and I have a vague feeling that includes owning certain items of their equipment as well.

Anyone know/is/married to someone who knows???

Che Castro - January 8th, 2005 at 11:13 AM

that chopped sheriff rod is awesome!

vwtyp2 - January 8th, 2005 at 12:27 PM

I like Polizei theme.
keeps with the German thing.

sax - January 8th, 2005 at 12:39 PM

I think so yeah, anybody who wants to put forward their ideas for this
please do. I can still change the colour I was meaning to paint it but probably looking at it being mostly 'beige' as Sir Fender puts it with everything else on top of that.

It doesnt need to be a real copy of a real police car but one that was created in the twisted minds of vw lovers.

I love the black and white rod or the state trooper thing but then should probably keep it German.

Would it be better to get stickers done or do it all in paint/airbrushing?

Che Castro - January 8th, 2005 at 02:09 PM

i reckon vinyl stickers would have much sharper edges and would be easier and cheaper to do than airbrushing. Also u can remove it if the cops dont like it :)

Canni. - January 8th, 2005 at 07:19 PM

chatted to reli who's a copper..

Says its perfectly legal to have those sort of emblems (blue and white etc.) on the car ..can even have the word 'police.' As long as you don't get out of the car and say you are a cop then you aren't representing yourself as one. He thinks driving with light is illegal but is unsure..

I think the german 'polizei' would be the coolest :)

sax - January 8th, 2005 at 07:33 PM

OK then, it's settled.

I'm not much good at photoshopping so if anybody wants to submit designs, the winning creativist will get full credit plus a pair of used rocker cover gaskets as reward for their efforts.

And many thanks to the person who offered the decals for free. A true gentleman.
