Hey, here is a question for the kombi gurus: is a '76 dual-cab Kombi ute "very rare" for $700 with a spare 1600 motor? I don't
know any details or its condition or even if it is still for sale. I was interested though because I may be on the look-out for a Kombi if it is
special.
Nah, not rare, just getting harder to get because of them being a comercial vehicle they get beaten about and have a hard life. Ok so that sounds a
bit weird, but I hate it when people use the 'RARE' word so freely. A split dual cab IS rare, a barndoor IS rare, a 21/23 window bus IS
rare, a split beetle Is rare, a Judson is rare, complete original Hazet tool boxes ARE rare, but a 76???not in my books. However for $700 it sounds
like a steal:o
go for it!
Lets face it 'Rare' is a word that looses it's meaning when someone tells you that a mark1, 2 door golf is rare, or that a seller has a
set of early RHD skyhooks for a 25 window deluxe type 3 push button model factory rag top wagon with a factory Judson/Okrassa motor intalled
Wow I'll have it....
I'm going for a coffee and a lie down
I agree. A twincab is 'rare' in comparison to a standard transporter, but not when compared to a 54 Double door Deluxe.
At $700 it's a bargain provided that the body is in good condition. If all the parts specific to a twin-cab are there, I would think it is a good
buy, as the other parts can be obtained cheaply from a 'normal' kombi anyway.
It seems to me everytime you look through just cars or unique cars they seem to be filled with Karmann ghias for sale. They are everywhere but also rare so I recon all air-cooled VWs are rare and becomming rarer everyday. The super beetle is now on the endangered list.:jesus
rare enough for me. I can open a newspaper and by a van any day of the week. It would be extrememly rare to find either a single or twin cab ute.
Where do you guys draw the line in the sand for rare? They surely cant be called common. A split window beetle isnt rare. There's plenty more of
them than kdf cars.
What is extremely rare is type 2 sedans. I had never heard of them until last weekends NRMA motorfest. but there was 2 of them. they looked just like
a split and an oval beetle to me, but the sign on the window said type 2. Strange people in the historical side.
too many moth balls in the clothes !
:bounce
Tnanks for that guys. i will investigate further at least, and see what pans out.
Righto Bye
