punch buggy is definatly a selling point. kustom kool gave me the vw disease. the more i looked, the more i liked

my best friend's dad bought a splitty then a bay camper. my partner gets a new car every year (don't ask) and this time around he decided he wanted a splitty.....we've had it for nearly a year and would never sell...now I'm thinking seriously about selling my mazda 6 and buying a notch..

the thing that makes us drive the kombi on the weekends and not the mazda is the looks you get, the sound he makes and the waves and nods of appreciation you get from other VW drivers / owners.

Dad bought a 71 bug when I was a teenager and I bought it off him when I could drive (red bug shown below). It was fun and different. Had a few VWs since then (all shown below), and now my kids are growing up with them.

Almost everything on the road is the same shape, same sound, just the same. These things are different, head-turners, and reliable.

And as I am finding currently, great for kids to learn to drive in......they can't achieve Mach 2, can't fit 16 of their best mates in, and they're so basic there are no gizmo's to go wrong.

I first feel in love when I was doing auto electrics. i did up an escort, and my friend a beetle. I loved his beetle more.

But funds and family stopped me getting my own, until recently.

I bought one for my son, so he could learn about erspecting ur car. i figured he'd have mroe erspect for one he did up, ratehr than one that was just bought.

But whenw e got it home, and those moments of lust for the beetle I had all the way back then came flooding back. And yes it was lust for the beetle, not in it.

So I convinced my partner to let me get one, and now I am doing it up.

each day I sit here reading reading reading, so I can learn as muh as possible about fixing it, and keeping it on the road (once I get it there)

But now it has gotten even worst. my 12yo wants one as well. My partner is thinking of calling this the bug house. hehe

I learnt to drive in a Twin cab while visiting my uncle in West New Britain PNG) in 1969/70 christmas holidays and bought my first car in 1971 - a 1962 VW Beetle

got interested in my late teens, fell in love with the concept in my early 20s, clssic styling, boxer engine, rear drive, 4 wheel independant susp, porsche heritage, and just as important, Cheap!

It all started when I was about 5, it was instinctive, I can't pinpoint a moment that I thought to myself "I want a VW" it has just always been with me. When I was older (about 12) I had the fortune of going through my opa's old things, and found some papers relating to his VW mechanic business, I was naturally curious and so I asked my aunt about it. As it turns out, my opa was a mechanic during the war, and you'll never believe it, but he was part of the original team who enigineered the "people's car" He apparently worked directly under Porsche himself, and his main job was the clutch assembly.

I guess you could say that VW's are in my blood.

I can't say I inherited the attraction more like it was forced upon me but they grew on me as I realised beetles were unorthodox-rear engined,air-cooled etc. Even the history attracted me, not in a fascist way but the way the cars were built and sold after the war in what must have been a very anti german climate not only that but also after the "experts" had rubbished it. A funny thing is all my mates I grew up with in my street thought my dad was german because he had a beetle and a lot of English at the time were still not too happy with the krauts and refused anything but British cars!

saw a canary yellow buggy drive by one day and was like a puppy against the car window. my mate in the car then talked it up about being cheap and easy to fix, and fibreglass bodies easy mend. plus they have a lot of character (all vws), you gotta love something thats a little bit different.

saw the manx i own today on the side of the road - thought 'what harm can it be just having a look', had to be dragged away from the the dub from then - i need it, i want it, i have to have it - its perfect!

Before I was born my father had a kombi, his brother had a kombi and I think at some stage they had a bettle too. When I was born my parents owned a very nice red squareback. Then over the years we had a few bettles here and there. One I remember had a big hole cut into the floor pan under the front passengers feet (rust) and i remember going to soccer in the rain with water flying up at me from the road. Then VW's stop existing in my life until I turned 21 and dated a guy who did is apprenticeship at Bruce Geddes (Peakhurst) and I started to admire them again. Then when I met Matt it was part of the package.... Love Matt, Love VW's. Now I am a die hard VW fan. I even won the Fastest Female Engine Build at the Nationals 3 years in a row. Would never have dreamed I'd be doing that in a million years!

ive been driven around in vws since i was 1 years old(i was supposidly concieved in a typ 3,no shit)but i loved driving around with my dad in his splitty ever since i was 12???GO THE VOLKSWAGEN!!!!!!but i still like driving a nice new car as a daily driver.....please dont hate me now:kiss

11 was when i first started wanting one. At 13 there was a baja on my paper round. I would always look at it as i passed by. Told my parents i wanted one. So saved me pennies and eventually get me one. Alas it wasn't a baja. But the opposite nic and low !!! Still always fancied one. Then i got the buggy bug ! Alas still haven't got either !!! but tax time is getting closer. Then time to change cars again. the old bm will have to leave and the mrs says should be allowed a buggy then !!! yippee............................

I was brought home from the hospital in a Beetle, so for me it was from birth! and its the same for my children, they were all picked up from the hospital in a VW.
