Hi Everyone. I'm new to these parts. I love lurking on this forum and have decided it's about time to get involved.

There's a german short film called "Free Parking" that features a Mk1 golf fighting a Porsche for the last carpark in the world. Some cool driving in that one. Just recently I saw "I Spy" which is set largely in Hungary. In two car chase shots I nearly jumped out of my cinema seat when I saw Mk1 Golfs playing the part of innocent traffic.

Unity-28 - February 5th, 2003 at 02:48 PM

I know its not a Movie, but there is a very nice Diamond Green Bug in Neighbours! That was for sale about 4 years ago, and I passed it up cause I wanted the notch!!!! Doesnt matter, but it is a very nicestocker!!!

amazer - February 5th, 2003 at 03:32 PM

You see VW's in just about every movie so long as the period is right. I'm always rewinding to see if IT WAS a beetle/kombi etc.

Not necessarily starring but in traffic or parked, theres heaps.

I think we should have a seperate forum for " I spotted a VW in..."

jenz58 - February 5th, 2003 at 07:37 PM

RACV ad in todays Herald Sun had a nice painted up hippy combie

YHA has put a kombi graphic on the front of their Europe and Rest of the World hostel guides for 2003

I think they could be flavour of the month

Keep passing a poster advertising a surf movie showing the back of a blond bikini clad surfer chick heading toward a very nice slammed kombi (keep forgetting the name and also seeing if it is on video by now)

DeRrO - February 5th, 2003 at 07:40 PM

Saw the Rock again the other day.

They wreck to VW's. A beetle painted with flower extreme hippie colours and also a Karman Ghia during the chase :P

Mr VeeDub - February 7th, 2003 at 01:09 AM

I know it's not a live action movie but in the recent Disney animation movie ''Lilo and Stitch''
The little Alien creature in the movie Stitch picks up a blue beetle, yells the words 'Blue Punch Buggy' and throws it at the bad guy.
Thought it was cute.

Just my bit!

P.S. Herbie still rules as the coolest dub on screen!!!!

Quickbug - February 7th, 2003 at 07:11 AM

Mattie - yeah The Fast and the Furious has that awesome Jetta!
I want it!!!
:D

Ok not a movie but who watches the Simpsons!?!?!
There are very frequently beetles in it!
Usually just background cars but not always!

Tazzielittle - February 7th, 2003 at 08:21 AM

The Simpsons feature VW's because the creator Matt Groening is a Vee Dub Nut!
Also look at king of the hill.....
New beetles are in most streets....

Can't post much - Browser shuts down all the time. Won't load pages and locks. Uh!

So many new members. Perhaps I should go away more often. Hi all :).

We did the free willy thing a while back. On the coach returning from Sydney we all watched 'Field of Dreams' with Costner. He pilots an ole Burgendy BW camper on his quest zig zagging all over the inner US.

In the last 2 days of movie watching...

in ET theres a red type 1 in the background. cant remember exactly when.

in Catch Me If You Can when Leonardo goes to the airport hoping to meet up with his fiancee there's a dark blue beetle and it appears again in traffic a few minutes later.

...... back to the TV.

penguin - February 16th, 2003 at 05:35 PM

Yes, I do think that a few of the ehem 'Older' members of the forum would remember Alices Restaurant (song and movie), as some of us 'middle aged' members remember it, why willie? and please tell me your surname isn't Broon is it? ( I guessed that because of the oor willie tag)

volma1 - February 16th, 2003 at 08:34 PM

Just watching "The whole nine yards" with Bruce Willis, on the box, and a NB was featured in the background. volma1

volma1 - February 16th, 2003 at 08:40 PM

Also forgot to mention there is a cool splittie with the full hippy theme in "The Adventures of Bazza McKenzie" might have had something to do with the era. They were real hippies then and the van was standard transport. volma1
