kara&herkombi - March 4th, 2005 at 01:47 PM

hi there,

Im writing a story for my journalism class at uni on the 'kombi culture' in australia and around the world and need some credible sources as there is a chance the story will be published on the net..

Does anybody know any web-sites or even books that have information about the kombi or volkswagen culture? i have found a few things but they havent really been to uni standard.. any help would be appreciated!! thanks

kara

Not sure of any books, but off the top of my head, there are a number of sub-cultures within the Kombi culture.

The surf set, ferals, back packers, family's, restorers / enthusiasts, p platers [see surf set?], regular Mums and Dads.

I'm sure others can break this down further.

Re the backpacker culture - plenty as you know go around Oz. There is a known place to pick up an ex around Oz car - sometimes including Kombi's - where backpackers buy / sell cars onto each other. This is Mrs Macquaries Chair near the Botanical Gardens in Sydney.

I'm sure there's plenty of other stories out there.

Squiz....

Hmm... I remember a girl doing a similar uni article ~3-4 years ago. She came along to a BLBVW club meet and interviewed a few kombi's drivers.
Never saw a published article. Wonder if any of the BLB members know what happen to it???
Can't think of any books though.
Good luck with it, and be sure to send us a link to the finished piece!!
