Reminder on forum rules
vanderaj - March 18th, 2005 at 10:58 PM

We are again in a spot of legal bother. Please note the rules to which you all agreed when you signed up:

Quote:

Please take a moment to review these rules detailed below. You are required to abide and agree with all terms set below in order to participate in our community.

Considering the real-time nature of this forum, it is impossible for us to review messages or confirm the validity of information posted. We do not actively monitor the contents of posted messages and are not responsible for any messages posted. We do not vouch for, or warrant the accuracy, completeness or usefulness of any message, and are not responsible for the contents of any message. The messages express the views of the author of the message, not necessarily the views of this forum or any entity associated with this forum.

You agree, through your use of this service, that you will not use Aussieveedubbers to post any material which is knowingly false and/or defamatory, inaccurate, abusive, vulgar, hateful, harassing, obscene, profane, sexually oriented, threatening, invasive of a person's privacy, or otherwise a violation of any law. You should be aware that in some circumstances material could be defamatory (libellous) even if true or even if a party is not named but can be reasonably deducted from information given.

Any member whom feels that a posted message is objectionable is encouraged to contact us immediately by email. We have the ability to remove objectionable messages and we will make every effort to do so, within a reasonable time frame, IF we determine that removal is necessary. This is a manual process, however, so please realize that we may not be able to remove or edit particular messages immediately.

Although this forum does not and cannot review the messages posted and is not responsible for the content of any of these messages, we at this forum reserve the right to delete any message for any or no reason whatsoever.

You remain solely responsible for the content of your messages, and you agree to indemnify and hold harmless this forum, Aventure Media, Inc. (the makers of the bulletin board software), and their agents with respect to any claim based upon transmission of your message(s).

We at AussieVeedubbers also reserve the right (or may be compelled) to reveal your identity (or whatever information we know about you) in the event of a complaint or legal action arising from any message posted by you.

Nudity, chain letters, pyramid schemes, and solicitations are inappropriate on this forum. Any postings of this nature will be immediately deleted at the sole discretion of Aussieveedubbers, and users posting such materials may be banned and their IP addresses blocked.

If a member threatens to sue or actually sues Aussieveedubbers, they will be immediately banned.

Please enjoy the forum... and try to have some fun and add a bit of humor.

I have modified the footer of the forum to include as a reminder of the rules. I call on each of you to read and understand the rules and abide by them.

Moderators and admins will continue to delete any thread they are aware of which contains defamatory material. If you have any concerns at all over thread contents, please use the Report button and we WILL take care of it as soon as we're next on.

The major change is our attitude is in banning users who transgress the rules. We will try to keep the doors here open for as long as is possible, but if you're not helping the cause, you are gone.

What's happened this time?

vanderaj - March 18th, 2005 at 11:16 PM

Sorry, that's not up for discussion right now as it could be sub judice and I certainly do not want to make the situation worse.

Let's just say that the matter is covered by the rules and if everyone had followed them, we wouldn't be here.

Andrew

I'm trying My best not to upset/attack anyone Andrew...

I'm sure all other AVDers are doing the same....
excepting the posting I read yesterday.....
talk of Lawyers etc....

I believe anything NOT associated with VWs should be deleted anyway.... IMHO... of course...

Again, I am sorry to anyone I have offended, with my actions previously

cheers
Donna

DIY-DUB - March 19th, 2005 at 12:25 AM

maybe we could have a different section of forum for the use of um slang lingo in humorous situations? doubt u will liek this but its worth a shot, best bit would be late nite dubbers, hey what happens in there could only be available 2 read and post in2 between certain hours, like tv rateings, dunno if u can do this, but its an idea

vanderaj - March 19th, 2005 at 12:34 AM

See the bottom rule - to have fun? Don't forget that bit. :) Feel free to post stuff wherever you see fit.

I think the simple guideline that seems to work for posting in threads is to not cut the grass of the original poster, and not to move too far off topic. For example, posting about a visit to the zoo in a for sale thread - bad. Posting a query on the same thread about the item for sale - good. Posting about your goods for sale or criticising the price in another poster's for sale thread - bad, asking for reasons why the price is what it is, acceptable.

I was sued for defamation in the early 90's. These days, if I'm steamed, I sit on a reply or outburst for 24 hours. If you're steamed, you're going to post bad thoughts. Bad thoughts lead to anger, and anger leads to defamation.

The easy way to think about defamation is "am I slagging X off or does my post potentially reduce X's standing in the community?", or even easier the old wives' proverb: "if you have nothing good to say, don't say anything at all".

Don't be afraid to post all the other stuff - there's heaps and heaps of stuff that's just fine! In three years, we've had legal troubles over 10 or so posts out of 245,000. That's a pretty good strike rate.

I don't mind swearing, don't mind the occasional risque post, but please think about the fact we have a fair number of under 18's here, and a few under 13, and many members who don't like to see that sort of stuff. Please use commonsense and post content for that potential audience.

Above all, we're here to spout crap about our VW's and to have a good time. Never lose sight of that!

Andrew

DIY-DUB - March 19th, 2005 at 12:44 AM

Bump.

Remember we are in a delete-happy mood.

Andrew

zac_smits - March 21st, 2005 at 08:19 PM

delete-happy...

not to be confused with trigger happy... :P

unless that is, that you have a camera :D

:D Sorry, i try to add humour, but fail miserably :D

i know i'm not the only one on here who has the same sentiments about this forum.
it's one of very few places on the internet where we can all come together and bond and have fun in a safe and socialable manner.
we all like avd, otherwise we wouldn't be here. if it wasn't here, what would you be doing? how many veedubbers would you actually know and talk to without this place?
it's a privellige people..let's keep it that way eh? :D:D

my two cents.

Zac

Do not post defamatory posts. They will be immediately snaffled.

Andrew

byronbus - April 8th, 2005 at 11:20 PM

hmmm, ok

vanderaj - April 8th, 2005 at 11:22 PM

FYI, we had a new member join tonight and their first post violated these very same rules. :( Oh well.

I hope they come back. We don't normally bite people's heads off on their first post.

Andrew

byronbus - April 8th, 2005 at 11:23 PM

haha

byronbus - April 8th, 2005 at 11:23 PM

hehe, what did they say?

vanderaj - April 8th, 2005 at 11:26 PM

Something that is probably truthful about a US based business. If it is true (and I honestly don't know), then consumers could be screwed over again. :(

But with the screwed up defamation laws here, we can't have even that. :(

VolksFolks - April 9th, 2005 at 08:15 AM

shaihulud - November 19th, 2005 at 09:10 PM

Andrew is right. In Oz the laws of libel and slander are designed to protect the guilty. Even if what you say is true and you can prove it, you can be in trouble. Even saying something for the public good is not enough to protect you. A warning about a person or company which is a bad news can get you into trouble. Also remember some people win law suits by appealing and appealing until you go broke and they eventually get a win and you have to pay their huge legal costs. They don't actually win, they wear you down and enjoy every minute of it.

aggri1 - February 17th, 2006 at 07:14 AM

Hey there,
on the Vehicles for Sale page the link to the Rules topic seems stuffed. Or did I dream it?

http://forums.aussieveedubbers.com/forum/viewtopic.php?tid=25440

Does that work?

Cheers. A.
