Anyone know anything about hotrod rego. Rang the NSW RTA to find out about it and they just played dumb like it didn't exist. Now maybe they are right but I thought there was such a thing. Like the reverse of vintage rego. Want to hot up a ghia but would hardly ever drive it. Thought I might get the costs down this way.

Any ideas? Anyone done it before? Pro's and cons?

Ive been talking with Grahame Stubbs from ASMA for the past few months in order to include our club as we have several members who could benifit from this.

the HOt rod clubs dont want a BAR of you when you tell them u have a VW or later than 1939 vehicle.

Was of time n effort talking to the RTA by your self... they have to be attacked in force.

Section 2.2 (of the linked doc) states that "period accessories and options, if desired" are eligible.

Does anyone know if Okrasa kits, Judsons, extractors, Volkstrokers, Brms etc. constitute period accessories in this sense?
Do camber compensators fit under "safety features"?

Or if any VW clubs view any of these items as eligible accessories?

The "hot rod rego" has been finalised. It was use under a permit and there was no rego as such only club plates, now they have a conditional rego with new plates etc. The RTA wanted to run the whole deal but the hot rod association worked with them and now it is run by the association.
I think that's the deal?

In Tassie we have rego called (Special Interest Vehicle) with SI plates. You have to use a log book with unlimited kms but can only use for 52 days per year. Costs approx half normal rego($220) per year. Car must pass roadworthy and be at least 30 years old. volma1

Thats exactly what we need here in NSW. Go Tassie. That would be excellent since I hardly drive the car except on the occasional weekend when I have time.

Can't believe thats half your rego anyway. You guys don't have to buy greenslip either do you. In NSW You have about $380 for a greenslip more for under 25's. They get ripped off big time. Its about $550 or something for a greenslip. Plus then you have about $200 for your rego plus you need to pay about $30 for it's mechanical inspection. It's all bullshit. You look on your rego and over half of it is tax. So can I get a good job down in Tassie. I think I may move.

In VIC the rego for my 65 notch, is $410 per yr. i'm under 18 (i'll be 17 next month) and even if it's registered in my name it would still only be $410

in Vic do you have the roll out of Toll Ways, all those fuel and rego taxes arent enough for decent roads , we have to pay extra for that.

In Tassie the rego varies with the amount of cylinders in your car not engine size, so get a Lada Niki 2 cylinder. Four cylinder is approx $446 then goes up, hate to have a v12 but I think it stops at v8. My thoughts are that rego should be linked in with your petrol then it would be user pays. The more you use the more you pay to cover road maintenance. There should be a small fee to cover the labels and MAIB and 3rd party must be compulsory as there are too many uninsured cars on the roads.volma1

Voma1 move to Sydney and you have one vote for a state election. That is pure geneous. But then again up here at least half of the fuel bill is tax anyway. So guess they sting us twice up here so couldn't for see that happening. But good that it would catch people on a user pay system. I like it still. Not really fair as I catch the train everyday and drive about 2 kms to the station and thats it. I know I know I'm lazy. But it starts my day off good by driving my VW.

After doing all the " if... press 1" crap it gives you a list of about 10 different quotes from all the major companies. The differences are amazing. The call usually costs something like $5.

NRMA is always cheapest for me. Years ago it was shannons, but they have gotten dearer. Just got my lancer gslip and it was $256.

Food for thought: When Wollongong flooded a few years back every insurance company paid out except for QBE.

Man am I gonna be pissed when I pay $600 for nsw rego then drive to tasmania and pay $2 for a litre of fuel! I think its unfair too. I will pay happily for fuel tax if it is spent on roads. But multiple regos and insurances are a sin. Register and insure drivers. by the time I (...ok my wife pays) register and insure 2 trailers and 2 daily drivers it rules out a sunday toy car.

In QLD we have SI aswell.....
You must be a financial member of a club, you must only drive in club events or funtions Including( Weddings, fetes or similer functions conducted by religious, charitable or educational purposes... you are alowed to do a 15KM test drive and you are alowed to drive it to get it fixed.....
You must have either SI,Historic or personal plates.
This will make you cry!

With the petrol issue including rego, a survey was done a few years back and it was discovered that only a few cents per litre covered the rego costs. Petrol costs the same here as Victoria except in country towns on the west coast and east coast where it can be as much as 7-8 cents dearer. Average ulp price currently 101.9cpl. volma1

I like the idea of a 'Registration Tax' factored into the price of fuel. I could have as many cars as I wanted and registration would cost the same as one car, because I can only drive them one at a time - very similar to insuring the driver.

I especially like the fact that it would provide even further incentive for people to keep their fuel consumption to a minimum by tuning and maintaining their vehicles, or just plain driving less.

hmm I still dont like it for NSW. They would rort us something shocking.

In the 80's we were conned into paying an extra 3 cents for 3 years to fix up our roads. I think the 3 cents went into putting "3 X 3" signs everywhere. So at the end of three years it went up to 6 cents. Signs stayed at 3 X 3 even though it was then 6 x 6 (and we are still paying it) yet roads are getting worse. The few roads that were rebuilt or newly built all have tolls of $2 or more. They would at least charge us $1 a litre. 10 cents for rego and 90 cents for administration.

Every house in the Illawarra just recieved postal vote forms printed in colour on glossy paper. Stop spending on rubbish and we wont have to pay any rego.

The CH and SR plates in Vic are not 'rego' They are a permit to drive an unregistered 'Classis Historic' or 'Street Rod'
The permits are issued by Car Clubs, and The plates are issued by Vicroads. The unregistered vehicle fines of $500 are issued by Vic Police if the vehicle is being used improperly.
You need to submit your permit yearly to vicrods to remain current, and a signature from the authoried signaturaries of the club is required.
I am a member of a Holden club that does CH plates, and the requirement stipulated by our club is a RWC must be presented for first time permit.
Then each year the vehicle must be visually inspected by one of the authorised members, or by a scutineer authorised by these members.
