....I was advised it is members only forum....but there are 4 guests....please explain

Anyone can browse, only members can post.

mmmm that is weird they must have logged in as Guests .. I will look into it ..

Looking into it I think it is people who haven't clossed it down since we changed over, or a glitch .....

Just curious as to why guests have been stopped from looking ? Since they cant post I am not sure how they can cause trouble if all they can do it read posts ?

Cuz until you sign up you haven't agree to the rules of the forum. ie. That you won't sue if you don't like what you read etc.

I got the u2u and the email, but it did not say how stopping guests reading was going to solve whatever problem was being caused. I was just curious.
Now I can see what they are trying to stop which makes sense.

The answer is really simple: it's the people who haven't yet registered or logged in are the guests. They are counted, even though they aren't able to see or view anything.

Header.php processes every time you view a page, so even if you have left your browser open since we made the change, it would take immediate effect.

Basically, we are a REALLY popular forum and there are still significant numbers of non-registered users who have yet to create a login. The numbers will die down over time.

I had the U2U,that why I stay logged on all the time,also posted the restricted access post !

...I saw that...I don't log out at home...easy can flit in and outa here...at work it's different I do log off there

I didn't hear about this until after the event (as usual). In fact this is the first I'm hearing of it.

But it raises the riddle of "Which came first, the chicken or the egg?"

If guests can't view the forum, how do they know if they want to join?

You can't read the forum rules unless you log in. I just tried & it comes up with error.

Now, I see a fundemental problem with people having to agree to the rules to become a member, BUT , not being told what they are until after they agree.

I'm f#cked if I'd join a club like that.
And make no mistake, if it is now "members only" it is no longer a forum but a club.

Spook raises a very good point here. I just logged off and and tried to register thinking that in the registration process it might show you the forum rules.
I got an error message saying that the maximum number of registration had been reached for the day, please wait 24 hours and try again.
Not trying to be picky or difficult here, but this is a great forum and should be available to as many people as possible. I am certain that the directors/administrators of this forum have excellent reasons as to why the change was necassary. Just looks like a few "technical" issues need to be sorted in regard to seeing the rules before registering and actually being able to register.

I didn't get the u2u either, but if we're scared of litigation why dont mod's ever clamp down on people mentioning business unfavourably in people's posts here?? surely that would be a better way than just closing the iron curtain.

Could anyone share what was in the u2u seeing it was meant to go to everyone (but didnt)

Here is the U2U that was sent.

Due to recent issues with idiots it has been decided by the Board Administrators to restrict Access to members only.

I realise this may cause issues for some people trying to view from behind firewalls and we apologise for this in advance.

This decision was made so that we can ensure that all people viewing the forums are members and as such agree / consent to the rules of the forum and in particular the liability of individuals in relation to posts they make.

Aussieveedubbers is not liable for the posts made by members. It does have a responsibility to remove offensive posts once it becomes aware of them but it is not liable for them in the mean time. By the same token we are required by law to release registration details of a member if an court order is provided to us in writing.

Therefore any member who notices an offensive post need to report it using the "Report Button". If moderators or Admins receive this they will view the post and take the appropriate action.

I thank you for your support to date and hope this continues. Aussieveedubbers has grown to be one of the most active and informative VW forums in existence today. This is due solely to the support and involvement of our members.
