just a diversion on the bike nuts thing,
in the late '60s early '70s at Blaxland in the Blue Mountains there was an immaculate red & chrome BMW motorbike
with a tinless VW 1200 motor, the guy used it every day & it was beautiful, you had to look twice to see that it wasn't a BMW motor, does anybody know what happened to this bike??? :alien

I saw that same bike a couple of times while riding my own BM, I have seen a few of these conversions done, most of them were done in the 70's, sadly I havent seen one for quite some time, and I have been a BMW M/C club member for quite some time, this conversion was a bit of a novelty at the time, they didn,t go around corners very well but the torque was mind blowing, at the present time there are three manufactures of VW engined trikes, and the sales of these are quite healthy, it gives people who can't ride because of medical conditions the oportunity to experiance the same feeling of being on a bike.

I have seen one of those here in Brissy.
But I think I'll stick with original twin in mine. I've even seen one in an early Goldwing!!

how long have you had the BM, I have had my R100RT for 17 years, the reason I bought it, was because it was half a VW and matched the 65 beetle (stupidly I sold the beetle 7 years later) and 77 Kombi witch I still have.
Most of the people in the street thought I was a German! It seems that quite a few of us VW people have owned BMW boxer bikes as well as our VW's

I never really thought about the torque reaction of that bike!! left hand corners on a wet road must have been interesting, the first time I rode a BMW it scared the hell out of me & that was only a 650.
