Which way should I go?
kustomkool - March 5th, 2003 at 03:11 PM

My latest project is 64 birch green squareback. It has neat but slightly worn salt and pepper interior. Now ive primed and patched all little damages and the car is nice and straight.I have all new rubbers scrappers and beading and gromets and stuff.I need some input on which way to go .Its either respray in original colour with white roof ,roof rack, slammed on stock rims with whitewalls, and a few little accessories or black cream roof alot of accessories, small squareback roof rack and slammed on BRMs or keep it original paint with primer showing and tones off accessories some pin stripping T1 bucket lights grafted in and slammed on sprintstars. What do you folk recon.

Bugged Again - March 5th, 2003 at 03:20 PM

i think you should slam it :P

Quickbug - March 5th, 2003 at 04:05 PM

Go the black option IMO.
The respray in original sounds good too.

baybuscamperkid - March 5th, 2003 at 06:28 PM

1st option, with BRMs

wrecker67 - March 5th, 2003 at 08:21 PM

Don't do the black.

Unless you're going to do a fully original restore and keep it for posterity, VWs should be driven. If you paint it black, you find it absolutely impossible to keep clean for more than half a day and the temptation will be to not drive it.

I'd much rather see it in primer (and slammed) and driven, than turned into another meaningless "show" car.

P.S. White is actually the easiest to keep looking clean - believe me, we know these things in the outback!

Unity I reckon black and caramal two tone with a blue pearl over the black would look mad.Iplan to make mine a neat daily driver so if it chips I will easily respray the offending panel.I dont know theres something about a black VWs they look so mean with all the right accessories you cant go wrong but I just cant shake that 50s feel to the birch green very old school its just a mad colour white roof silver BRMs,155 at the front 185 and the rear, thin walled by good ol Don,and slammed.and then bring out the accessories. The theme is Tiki and if anyone has seen the the type4 woody wagon well Im doing a type 3 woody wagon,Im using wood look contact adhesive and plastic wood stripping stay tuned.Oh shit ive let the cat out the bag .

lowdown - March 8th, 2003 at 04:49 PM

dammit Damian ya beat me! i heard from a friend in the states about that type4 woody about 12months ago and have been looking for a cheap good condition square for about 10 months to wood up! oh well let me know if you want help, are you gonna bag it? hopefully we can get a template from Nectar, how about it unity-28? when's the best time?

lowdown - March 8th, 2003 at 06:17 PM

D,
go t to the mooneyes site, they have a flaming tiki antena ball. perfect for the woody! also i think route66 has the tiki door pins at the moment.

volma1 - March 8th, 2003 at 06:34 PM

Anyone interested in an early notch for about 1k+delivery. Can deliver Tuesday b4 Easter from Tassie. Needs brakes, is a runner, with 1600cc engine, not roadworthy... but otherwise in good average condition. Good potential restorer, or slammer. Is the model with bugger all chrome trim, approx 64-65. volma1

empi - March 8th, 2003 at 10:11 PM

Brad havent you seen the new type4 woody its in the latest vWtrends or the last issue of Volksworld it is mad.I will drop in to Route 66 this week have to catch up with Glen see what new stock they have.I scored the wood panel vinyl addhessive thanks to Crack a Jack and the plastic mouldings have been ordered. So its time to paint next week.Ad what colour did you go for and I will call today..Labour day..Cant wait to see it finished last time I saw it was in Primer. It still looked mad slammed there with empi 5 spokes.

kustomkool - March 10th, 2003 at 10:45 AM

Brad just got on to a early square im thinking its a 65-66 its youres for bugger all i will take you to see it there plenty of room in oz for another vw woody and doesnt matter youre a OIldripper so I say go for it.Oh yeh theres also a 69 notch up for grabs real cheap needs resto.

lowdown - March 10th, 2003 at 09:01 PM

D,
i have the new vwtrends, the woody is fantastic ive been watching the oldbug boys build it over the net for some time. would love to have a look at the square but cant afford, tattoos expensive and the notch went into the garage today hopefully come out bagged and maybe painted! bought a 26"cruiser to make a lowrider, more money gone! i think i have too many costly obsesions vw's, tattoos, lowriders.

kustomkool - March 11th, 2003 at 09:57 AM

Yeh brad shit does get expensive when youre into tatoos vws and lowriders,Try throwing three kids into the picture and a rockerbilly obsession and youre wallet will be forever empty.
