TOTALLY ILLEGAL ADZ!!

It puts you wayyyyyyyyyyyyy over the legal DB limit.

volma1 - March 12th, 2003 at 11:22 PM

A friend that bought my single cab splitty from me drives around Canberra with one fitted. Says it throws out great flames. volma1

SKEWtYpe3 - March 13th, 2003 at 12:05 AM

Volma.........Seriouse ?
a stinger can work with a muffler b4 stinger yeah ?

Quickbug - March 13th, 2003 at 09:03 AM

Stingers dont have mufflers..
They are a straight pipe or trumpet type pipe that runs straight off the extractors.

SKEWtYpe3 - March 13th, 2003 at 11:44 AM

no possibility of putting a muffler in there? Not enough room yeah ?

I like the look kinda anyways.....
:bounce

Quickbug - March 13th, 2003 at 01:18 PM

i suppose you could fabricate something...
The stinger piper itself would be sticking wayyyyy out the back of the car though.
Even further than it would have....

XXX-1.8T - March 13th, 2003 at 01:40 PM

whats a stinger?

whats it look like?

sorry for my ignorance:bounce

no slow 63 - March 13th, 2003 at 03:06 PM

You used to be able to buy baffle / insert things for stingers which quietened them down heaps.

squizy - March 13th, 2003 at 03:39 PM

I know you can get baffles for stingers that will supress DB, but not sure about the legality of stingers as a whole. I think it has something to do with extending out past the rear bumper.

I did see a Cab many years ago with a bike exhaust on - built in baffle!

Squiz....

70AutoStik - March 13th, 2003 at 07:57 PM

Sorry guys, a stinger has more problems than just the noise. As far as I know, every state has an exclusion along the lines of:

"any protusion that may cause injury to a pedestrian."

About the only way you could get it past the cops would be to build a cage around it so no-one could touch it, which kind of defeats the purpose (oh, yeah, you'd have to baffle it pretty severely to get past the noise law, which defeats the other purpose...)

If you lived in WA and used it for official racing, you could use the law that allows you to drive a racing vehicle to and from official events... (but if they catch you cheating they pinch the car!)

OvalGlen - March 13th, 2003 at 08:16 PM

No Problems !
Just make the stinger with bend to send it sideways.
Only need to put a metal mesh cone inside it and a slight restricting washer type arrangement on the end and it will be "close to below the limit ".
As long as you dont accelerate too hard, you should get little attention.
Full throttle will probably get Loads of attention.

OvalGlen - March 13th, 2003 at 08:32 PM

just baffle in the stinger is enough.
-
It would be a fairly tight exhaust loop/ muffler to return to centre for the stinger, or one of those round the front of the engine exhausts.
Just brush up on your pipe welding.
Buy the bends , cut and weld them together.
I did mine with 2 1/2 inch from the right side over to the left twisting through the
Extractors.
You'd laugh if you saw it.
Just ask Brenden how hard it is to get off.

Baja Wes - March 13th, 2003 at 09:13 PM

You might as well buy a straight through muffler. I put one on my 1915 once, it was borderline legal when using part throttle, but when I flattened it, it sounded like the world coming to an end. As loud as my stinger. It is pretty annoying though. when you take off slow it sounds like a truck trying to get up a hill, and makes your car look gutless.

Quickbug - March 13th, 2003 at 09:41 PM

Wes has the idea.
Thats what ive got on my 2180cc...

No point having a stinger if it aint noisey and hanging out the rear :P

XXX-1.8T a stinger is basically a trumpeted exhaust pipe straight off the extractors that sticks out the rear of the car. They are in all verious sizes, but i have seen ones up to a meter or more longer hanging out the back

SKEWtYpe3 - March 13th, 2003 at 10:17 PM

heres a stinger
i was thinking of installing it the same way the bumper runs, under it.
YEAH ?!?!

Woozy - March 14th, 2003 at 12:16 AM

Best exhaust does kinda depend on your car tho .... i reckon cannons are the way to go on a baja :) ......

Extractors with a small hot dog on anythign else :";)

volma1 - March 14th, 2003 at 07:26 PM

Don't know how it is fitted to the single cab but he bought it from the states and used it at the German Auto show last August in Canberra and was a winner in class. He will have it at the Bug-in and Nationals so ask him about it then. Apparently it fits easy and looks and sounds great, don't doubt me look for yourself skewytype3.volma1

OvalGlen - March 14th, 2003 at 08:32 PM

Adam..dont throw in the towel and go standard.
You obviously have the extractors,
All you need is to attach a hot dog and a length of straight pipe.
If you dig in the dumpster outside a muffler fitting shop you will find some
lengths of pipe.

The_Bronze. - March 15th, 2003 at 12:17 AM

I'm with Woosy - I got the pair of cannons.
And dosen't the street know it!

:o Heh heh :o

amazer - March 15th, 2003 at 02:47 AM

sticks out past bumper/bodywork, forward of any opening window, over the db limit = illegal.

Just get a small quiet muffler. Otherwise it will just sound like a "morning after too much curry" fart fest. Powerfull sounds come more from the intake than the exhaust.

Quickbug - March 15th, 2003 at 11:14 AM

If you are keeping the Notch Adz, make the bug loud, but not stinger loud.
If you really want the look, buy a stinger, and put that on when u go to shows/meets etc...

The coppers will kick ur ass if they catch you with it on tho.

68AutoBug - March 15th, 2003 at 05:01 PM

[size=4]My Son's Girlfriend has a Baja Beetle with a 1600 tp engine with a dual throat Holley Bugspray on it, and it has a stinger... it originally was 90 degrees from Vertical but too dangerous, stuck out too far, so My Son cut it at the flange turned the stinger Vertical and rewelded it back on... Its NOT as noisy as most V8s... and has just been passed for rego for the 2nd time.... Only problem.. have to put bottom half of a 2 litre coke bottle over the end when it looks like rain when its outside. I told Him to drill a hole at the flange to let the water out....
